well so far have not heard from formance or magroc ...
however have recieved replies from both NZ and AUS branches of litegreen, theyve been very helpfully and seem keen to work with our plans
have received pricing from magroc. seems pretty good to me, but will have to price with traditional framing, interior and exterior linings finished to make a true comparison
had a good chat with tonya from formance, i explained that there seemed like an advantage with the habitech and magroc SIPs in that the interior and exterior linings are pretty much already there, as opposed to formance SIP with OSB that would have to be cavity battened and cladded on the exterior, and direct fix of plasterboard or some other interior lining inside. she mentioned that, although being supportive of all SIP building in NZ in general, the second cladding "skin" required with formance SIPs provided insurance against moisture that you dont get (by default) with the other products. ie, if you get ingress on habitech or magroc, its probably a difficult fix, whereas having a barrier of exterior cladding and cavity offers more protection. of course you can install a full exterior cladding with any SIP, but from my conversation it didnt sound like formance offered any cost reduction to offset the fact that you must clad, its not optional
i get it, but to be fair in my case its more about dollars, and as long as the prefinished SIPs have a decent warranty im not too concerned
this sundays episode of grand designs will feature a SIP house using litegreen / habitechs product

Dipper, can you please clarify is the price per m2 for Magroc that you got per m2 of panel or per floor area m2. Thanks for sharing your info :)
The $125 per sqm of panel for the walls and from talking to a guy from Magroc and confirmed on their facebook pare " As a rule of thumb a average sized house using our floor, walls and roof works out at $500m2". I hope that this help.
It been interesting to see the SIPS building style popping up on Grand Designs this season.
I love the notion of building a house like this and can't wait to sort my insurance out so I can start.
Thanks so much for clarifying Dipper! We are very interested in building this way too. No point in building more substandard houses! We are looking at self building on a pretty tight budget so trying to get an idea of prices and trying to find a professional locally to help us sort it out and that won't eat into our budget too much! :)
It has been really positive to read your comments about looking to build with SIPS products. I know some of you have already been onto our website www.litegreen.co.nz and found some information about HABITECH SIPS panel which we have exclusive rights to here in New Zealand - www.litegreen.co.nz/habitech/home
There are a few panel options out there that have been previously mentioned but none that offer an actual external cladding as part of the SIPS panel like Habitech offers. The external panel is made from MGO and 50% recycled timber making it an incredibly robust external cladding - all that is required is for it to be painted any colour that one desires. Obviously this creates some incredible efficiencies when it comes building with this product which also gives superior insulation and structural qualities.
If you want to see a home being built with Habitech - please view the last episode in the series of Grand Designs 2016 - The Earthquake House which is actually our LiteGreen Concept house - http://www.3now.co.nz/shows/grand-designs-new-zealand/season-2-ep-8/117967/M10921-794 . If you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to get in contact on info@litegreen.co.nz or phone Martin on 021398800.

Apart from steel-EPS-steel panels as used on a bajillion commercial buildings in NZ and some residential too ...
Mike
Hi Mike
Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have been more clear - I was referring to the MGO external cladding as opposed to any steel cladding options on other SIPS panel products. Residentially we have not used the steel due to the weight and more commercial nature but we welcome peoples ideas when it comes to building sustainably.
ive got a mate that works at kiwisteel, they have a steel skinned SIP product that performs well and is well priced. but you will end up with a home that looks like a portacom or mcdonalds fitout. very popular in korea apparently.
still talking with martin at habitech, getting our draughtsman to panelize our existing plan so we can send to martin for pricing
weve done some costing with timber frame vs. magroc SIP, and it looks like roughly $780K for timber, $820K for magroc, although that is based on the same amount of building labour, which should come down for SIP considering its build from scratch versus prefab
one issue i raised with martin, which is what im seeing as a main issue right now, is locking in an (auckland based) builder willing to work with SIP construction. have been told that theres a SIP build in titirangi thats been dormant for a year because they cant find a builder willing to work with SIP. of course builders in auckland can be as choosy as they want rn, why would you learn a completely new system of buiding when you currently have traditional construction work coming out of your ears ... i think fortunately we may have secured a builder willing to do just that, but will have to really be sure before commiting to SIP
