A water blaster in the laundry makes hardly and mess. I do it when my wife isn't home though, easier to get forgiveness than permission ;)

You have the wrong approach... Let her see you do it outside, then you are her hero for fixing the machine and she will forget you promised to cut the hedge..

 If you want them to be soft you can put them in the dryer.  Line drying will make them rougher than a dryer.  

 

 

This.

 

We only dry towels in the dryer, they stay fluffier much longer than line drying.
