Does anybody have the Yale Latching Digital Door Lock, and can please tell me what is the depth measurement of the front part of the lock including lever?

do NOT buy this lock. I bought it, installed it, broke 10 seconds later. It has a stupid design flaw, if you turn the handle whilst the lock is locking, the stupid thing breaks. this type of lock makes that extremely easy to do. the yale deadlocks are harder to do and are tougher design. this was the worst POTS ive ever bought. returned it to amazon, i cannot stress enough how crap this lock is.

Cheers for that. It does look a bit flimsy but it was the only digital door lock which meant I didn't have to drill in additional latch holes (like the 3109) in the door.

Definitely avoid the mechanical digital locks - they can only have one combination at a time, and if the secret gets out, it's a bit of a pain to change it and you are changing it for everyone.

With the new electronic digital locks, you can have many different combinations and give them to different people. If you fire your cleaner or disown one of your kids, you can just disable that particular code and keep the rest.

The ability to connect to your home automation is a cool feature. As others have said, unlocking through HA needs careful consideration, but being able to remotely check the state of the lock and lock it is really useful. I am about to add a door sensor and wireless module to my front door so I can always know if it is open or unlocked.

Does anyone have experience of connecting electronic door locks to an alarm system?

I installed an alarm at home that has app control and also the ability to control external devices like door locks.

E.g. press one button on the app and the alarm disarms and the front door unlocks.

I'm tempted by the convenience of this, but it's also a lot of eggs in one basket.

Mike, I am guessing that is by wires not wireless?

I think for a home I personally would want the alarm off but the door still locked...

Yes wired. Supports up to 8 outputs. At the moment I'm only using 1.

You can set up various routines which appear in the app. We keep the doors locked when we are at home so to replicate that you might have a routine that locks the doors but doesn't arm the alarm.

I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly. Did you like the lock or not? It's hard to tell

I've just bought one of these Samsung Digital Door Locks with Fingerprint reader that I intend on getting installed on my new build. Hopefully it's good.

We purchased one about six months ago for our front door. The unit is similar to the one illustrated in an above post but it has raised push buttons. I wanted a flat touch screen type like the Yale but was advised against it

as if wet,sometimes you may have trouble keying in the code.

Ours is a Windsor brand and we bought it from Sopers, a national chain of trade suppliers of handles and catches etc.

Bare in mind that you also have to have a separate door catch to hold the door shut when the digital unit is unlocked. That is if you want to keep the door shut but unlocked.

With five people coming and going continuously, not having to worry about keys is great, though it does have a key backup if the batteries run down.

And have the z-wave module talking to the home automation so I can check the lock state, lock and unlock etc remotely as well as logging and triggering options. I just removed the old deadbolt and this fitted in its place so very easy.

What I really like is that I can add and remove pin codes from my PC (up to 250) so it is very easy to add temporary codes for visitors, builders, cleaners etc and if one of the kids forgets their pin code I can reset it without affecting the other users.

As it is a deadbolt and not a latch, you need something to keep the door closed when it is not locked.

Just to confirm, the z-wave module will need to talk to a z-wave hub right? If so what hub are you using?

You are correct, Matthew. The lock only talks z-wave so you need a z-wave capable hub. I'm using Vera Edge but you could also be using a PC with a z-wave USB stick or a Raspberry Pi with z-wave card.
