If the other doors are thicker, that might explain the lock protruding on the thinnest door.

One lock juts out a little more than another, and that door could be a touch thinner. I'd have to measure them.

Ok, I talked to the door manufacturer who also changed the locks over.

Apparently Europe has moved to a different lock size standard from the one that was used when our door was made a couple of years ago - I think the new one is 45/45mm. They can't find barrels that fit with the old 35/45mm size anywhere in NZ, they have to source these ones that don't quite fit from Australia. If I can find proper sized barrels he'd be very keen to know.

He said the small gap that lets water in won't be a problem, and won't affect the guarantee.

Does anyone know where we might find a "35 45 euro profile barrel"? That's 35mm one side, 45mm the other side.

If you know how to get them out and what they look like, them maybe ebay might be your best bet.

Shouldn't they have told you that initially rather than you having to discover it? I would have thought they could then come up with a solution at the time, because obviously as they are next to one another, you would want them to match. eg both sticking out, or both flush. If it was me I would want both sticking out so they match.

Thanks @robjg63, I did spot a few on ebay. Those ones aren't deadlocks, but I get the point. I wonder if we want super cheap locks - I guess any lock is probably fine, given a brick will get you into any house in the country, and we do have a monitored alarm. You can get Yale for GBP10 but I might have to use youshop to get them here.

@mattwnz yes it would've made sense to warn us rather than just doing it, I think they're super busy and figured it'd be fine. They said they'd put the old ones back in and not charge us at all if we wanted. Good company to dead with.

I might check with the door guy to see which ones might work, then order a few to try.

Don't they normally mainly supply door hardware such as handles. If in Wellington I would ask either Sopers on Thorndon Quay or Henry and Kemp who are locksmiths.

There's a locksmith supply store on ebay that are selling Yale locks for NZ$18. I talked to a locksmith who said they charge around $60 per lock, plus a minimum callout fee of $105 or so. That'd put the charge at $340.

I can get the right size locks for $80 (one spare), maybe key them myself or drop them to a locksmith, then fit them myself. Total probably $150 or so. Anyone tried making the locks work to the same key themselves? I had a look online and it looked fiddly, but not complex.

Thanks all for the advice - I think we're sorted now :)

Yeah if that's a brand new door or lock I wouldn't want it left looking like a cowboy did the job that's just bleeding terrible I'd be on the phone and telling them to get back and put it right

Door is a couple of years old now. The company that did it went out of business, this was done by the manufacturer. They're a good company, did their best, but couldn't get supplies in NZ, and doesn't know about services like youshop to get stuff from the UK.

I'll get the new barrels, get them keyed, he won't charge me for anything.
