im the opposite. my last carpet was nylon, i hated it, i would never get anything other than wool :P it just feels better.

That should avoid GST and fees too?
Unfortunately I don't think so - over $400 so would attract about $100 of GST and fees.
I'm also pretty interested in the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum - [site that apparently I can't name] had this on sale yesterday (sale is finished now) for under NZ$400 including delivery. This would mean no GST or fees applicable.
The Xiaomi looks more like a 980 competitor. Enhanced mapping and navigation certainly looks like an upgrade from the 'bump and run' of the 690.
Has anyone got one of the Xiaomi ones? If it could be landed for under $400 then the price/feature combination is hard to look past...
ashtonaut: So after a bit of research I went with the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum.
If you play your cards right you can get this delivered for under the NZ$400 customs threshold. If anyone’s interested I’ll start a new thread with info.
First impressions: fantastic bit of kit, excellent build quality, works as expected, and amazing value for money when compared to the competition.
Where did you get it from?

davidcole: Do any of these vacs empty into something yet or are they still manually emptied?
Samsung used to do one that emptied into its base, but you still have to empty the base. And they weren't that good.

That sounds better than the room a stopping cos it’s full
The Roomba 980 had an option that allowed it to continue finishing off it's job even if the bin was full. I wonder how that would've worked out if the house is veery big!

The company that makes those in wall/central vacuums need to do a little robot one as well, and the robot plugs into a wall outlet to get it's rubbish contents sucked out.
