now I've been told that the door frame/window frames are rimu - so just wondering if it's worth keeping the timber look or paint over with (most likely white)

 

It all depends on the look you are looking for. The modern look at the moment is the Scandinavian look, with white everything, and very light timbers, such as American white oak. Rimu is quite a red timber, but could still look smashing in a modern house if done right.
