Interesting. You have a wall plug on the controlled supply? Maybe I should consider doing the same. It will be helpful if I could switch appliances like clothes dryer/spa/ and maybe some garage machinery etc onto the cheaper controlled power.

Check with your lines company first. As they typically won't allow power outlets on controlled circuits. As you can bypass the ripple control just by plugging things into different power points. But it is a lot harder to bypass when the appliances are fixed wired.

And you might also have to get approval to connect things other than hot water cylinders.

I live in Palmy Nth. A few years ago, the street lights failed to come on at night for several nights due to an equipment failure in the ripple control based at the Bunnythorpe substation.

Meh, all technology is subject to failure.

Yes I hadn't seen that done before. Previous house owner was a retired electrician. There are timer units on the power panel as he liked to have some things running at different times in the night, and a wall socket where I think he had a clothes dryer which is on the controlled circuit.

I'm fairly confident his setup is above board and correctly done. We had a couple of electricians in to make changes and none of them were worried about it.
