chevrolux: I bought a bag of 50 RJ45 keystone modules from Aliexpress for about $30.

They are totally fine... didn't come with the PDL clips.. but hey are cheap anyway.

Reason I recommend buying the PDL ones is because you just can't go wrong that way. And I figure if you need to ask the question of where to buy from you dont know much about the product so the safer bet is better.

if they are a keystone, you could always use a PDL 619MKC module to clip them in to

Yep correct. Exactly what I did and why I bought keystone modules in the first place.

PDL seems to want around 13+ $NZ for each 619 jack - plus their plates.

I guess that if you're fixated on style-matching your mains & data wall-plates - you might pay the premium - but for a house-lot of RJ-45 jacks... that's not doing much to keep down our high kiwi 'cost of building a house'.

If I walk into a house or office with mismatched plates I just think people are being cheapskates. It simply looks wrong for a saving of literally a couple of $

Nobody pays anywhere near $13 for a keystone jack unless you're simply walking into a wholesaler and paying their "street" price. You can use a myriad of keystone jacks with the PDL 600 faceplates. Depending on what spec you want keystone jacks are only down to a few $ each these days, but to me it's not just about price. The quality does vary a lot and I've seen and experienced brands of jacks which simply are crap.

Once you have a tool there is also then a vendor lock-in anyway because having to punch down jacks manually with a krone tool is terrible both in terms of wasted time and workmanship quality.

Sorry - just assumed that 13 $NZ was a competative price... I pulled it from Electric Direct's web site.
I've no idea what one of the bricks & mortar boys would charge a walk-in... I assumed double the NZ online price.

I no longer have an account with Ideal - got one long ago, when I was GM for a company using a lot of electrical gear and Ideal was just breaking into the Auckland market. So that will tell you just how many decades it was !

I got it beacasue I was building a large new house in Auckland's ECBays. I know the prices I got (in '92), for all my electrical components, pissed off my sparkie. And no, he wasn't pissed off because I sourced the gear myself - he encouraged it, as he was a very good mate and my long-time dive buddy. He was pissed off because they gave me a deeper discount than his trade supplier gave him - after 20+ years of him being a full-time Auckland sparkie.

The point I was making about international standard electrical/electronic components was that modern buying channels expose the rorts and distortions in the NZ marketplace - that Geekzoners are often grumbling about. The quality of a Keystone RJ-45 from a US name-brand is going to be at least the quality of PDL. Getting one to match one of the standard tools shouldn't be a significant problem either.
