How about a New Zealand importer retails them at a reasonable price and we all support that retailer for providing kiwis with a price we can afford.

Sometimes you can use this anal battery shipping policy to your advantage.  Places like Farnell have free shipping over a  certain spend. They don't send batteries however and will remove the batteries  from your order and refund their cost.  So, if you want to buy something under the free shipping threshold,  then adding batteries  is  a good work around.
