That is exactly what I had in mind. Only downside is after cutting the pipe to length. I would still need to get the one end threaded. One other option am looking at is to get a flat pack desk and adjust accordingly.

The pipes come pre-threaded at both ends and screw straight into the flange. This is one reason it’s so easy. You’ll end up cutting off one threaded end when you cut to length.

Last year I made a pair of speaker stands using exactly this approach - but with flanges at both ends. When finished, I spray primed and painted them matt white with an aerosol can - they look magic and entirely professional IMO.

If you’re going to paint the steel, you need to wash it all with very hot soapy water to remove any mill oil or grease that got there during manufacture.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

eracode: Buy four threaded flanges. They can easily be securely screwed or bolted to the underside of your desktop - each one has four pre-driilled countersunk holes - no need for a drill press. Definitely don’t need welding gear.

Ah, right, that'd be a much simpler approach. I was assuming he wanted to built a rigid metal frame and then just drop a piece of plywood across it.

Anyone knows someone who makes cheap custom made desk. I know cheap and custom doesn't normally go together. But I just needed a desk with a specific width and depth as it will go in between 2 walls. Does not need to be anything fancy. A white painted plank to be honest should be enough. The desk top itself needs to be 95x42. I am actually thinking of buying a plank at Bunnings but not sure if they could cut it for me. Living in an apartment has limitations.

If it’s between two walls could you use two of these https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/kv-shelf-anchor-shelf-bracket-600mm-white/p/228587

And slide a melamine sheet (or other plank of wood) cut to length between them?

There’s longer lengths of the frame available to purchase, 900 and 1200 mm I think.
They are used for shelves usually as ive used them first r a few bookshelves previously, and they also have a fairly high weight rating if I recall.

^That looks like a good option however as one of the 'walls' is the main post of the building e.g. concrete. Luckily I was able to find a cheap desk from Kmart. It didnt have the exact dimensions but did work out for its intended purpose.
