wsnz:

Our Panasonic developed an interesting fault. Without out any discernible pattern, when turned on the heat pump immediately runs normally, but pressing the temperature buttons (up or down) results in the unit shutting down.

Will try to get the board replaced.

Try resetting the remote first. As heatpump remotes save state internally with what the heatpump is doing. Also try buying a universal heatpump remote and see if it has the same problem.

Put new batteries in the remote if you haven't already tried that.

We recently had an issue with one of our heat pumps. The house is two streets back from the sea and the the base of the external unit is a bit rusty near the base but it had worked fine for the eight years since we installed it.

We heard what arseholes Fujitsu head office were to deal with with CGA claims so I contacted head office direct. Again there were the issues of contact numbers but rang the head office in Lower Hutt after getting the CEO's name from the Companies Office website.

Fujitsu ended up providing the parts free to our original installer and we paid their labour to get the part replaced.

Ironically Mr Fujitsu (Stephen Fleming) lived just across the road until shortly before the heat pump went on the blink (timing is everything!).

This is very sound advice. It's bizarre how quickly this can fix an apparently kaput heatpump.
