FPR:

Thanks, looks like I will be changing from Elgas to Rock Gas in the next few months.

I think pricing can vary from region to region, so make sure you confirm pricing first.

This fo which region and gas and power bundle?

I’m in middle of dispute with genesis at the moment as they offered me 15% prompt discount but now not honouring this. This is in Auckland and gas only and bottle is $138.99 before the discount.
Rental is $10.99 a month for 2 bottles.

Hi asked (and got) an unlock on this thread to see what's changed - April 2021 now.

I'm in Christchurch and I note that the current supplier, OnGas are quite reasonable at:

* $102.63 per bottle

(pretty good price I think)

but... have an annual service ("equipment") charge too

* $128.80 for two 45kg cylinders

We use about a bottle per two months.  I haven't gone through all the invoices but pretty confident to say we use about 6 bottles a year.

So really, our per bottle price including the service charge is:

* $124.10

Then I remember the old supplier which was um, Elgas, and they bundled their service into the per bottle price - and I think it was around about that same price too (could be a couple bucks more).

I think the question is... is RockGas (I joined and got an email reply from Contact Energy - I assume they own 'em) - still the cheapest around?  Talking Christchurch for *me* - but like to hear how it all compares thesedays still for other places in NZ too.

Cheers,  Duncan.

I'd be keen to hear about Auckland pricing if anyone has done recent pricing comparisons.

Contact energy sold Rockgas to Firstgas a couple of years ago. Contact still seems to bundle power and gas through Rockgas though.

Whenever I order a bottle I get an email acknowledgment from noreply@contact.co.nz. We don't have power or any other services from Contact. They should really update that if Contact doesn't even own it any more.

How timely.. Have just been looking into our gas supply as well, although admittedly this is after our supplier - Genesis - got in contact with us to offer a 'bundle deal'.

They essentially offered a 20% discount on their current rate of $120 per bottle and $11pm rental (for 2 bottles) if we moved our power over to them. The rates they offered for power are lower than what I'm currently on (including the discount), and combined with the $200 joining credit, it seems we're better off bundling gas and power with them for the next 12 months at least.

We must be quite high users, as we ordered 15 bottles in the past year! - 2 adults and 2 kids under 6.

Edit: we're based in Christchurch.

I am with ONGas in Christchurch area, and their new price effective 1st April 2020

 "Your price for each delivered Vector Ongas LPG cylinder will increase from $114.03 to $115.62 per cylinder, including
GST. This will take effect from 1 April 2021"

Cant fault their service after 12 years

I've just got an email in from Rockgas...

"
Here’s a reminder about costs:
 Gas price per 45kg cylinder: $112 incl GST
 Annual rental in advance (Facility Fee): $97.75 incl GST (for 2 x 45kg cylinders)
"

Looks pretty sharp - well... it does if it is an all-up price (yearly bottle rental/service included) ?

Ah... update: ignore... I see I've posted about Ongas originally! :)

So it looks like the price varies dependent on where you live.

That's annual rental with Rockgas for the 2 cylinders for me as well, but the cylinder exchange cost for me is $107.26.

I'm also in Christchurch, so not sure why my price is lower than yours.

Elgas, Napier has horrific prices compared to those others listed here:

45KG Cylinder: $154.39 per bottle (GST included)

Service Charge: $68 per bottle, per year (GST included) ($5.67 p/m)

I'll be looking at other options - just a pity that I had paid the annual service fee before seeing this thread.
