If the cable is not rated for direct burial it should be in conduit.

If the cable was taken anywhere near a fence an old style marker used to be a short piece of the conduit screwed to the fence.

Sadly while that seems like a great idea, no sign of any marker. Given some of the electrical work on our house defies any logic and demonstrates no thought whatsoever was put in by the sparkie, a small helpful gesture such as this was probably well beyond them.

Probably wont include that cable but will show any council services..

you can request a free report for your property from beforeudig

Wasn't aware of that service, thanks.  I have the electrical plan for the house but it only shows the provision for the cable to the end of the house, not where it goes from there.  As its only a standard lighting wire I guess it's not terribly critical in the scheme of things.

MadEngineer: I have it on good word that if water divining works for you, you'll also be able to divine for cables.

Yes the science is equally suited for locating cables.

I genuinely can't tell if you are being serious or not.

Is there actual science behind divining?

*goes off to google*

Edit update:  Yup, the statements that I quoted are accurate.  Nice work guys.  :-)

Yeah. I’ve not had personal experience from it. Initially I was a little skeptical ask about it but the diviner’s tend to not be the out there weird types. Seems to work despite scientific testing of the ability shown to not work.

It turns up in the news every now and then headlining that a council employs (cough contracts companies that use cough) water diviners

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
