Could you use the NAS to upload the security camera footage off site?

I use rasp pi based cameras which email photos to my phone directly but also save footage to NAS where it automatically uploads to my dropbox using cloud sync not the synology security station software(Synology 412+).

I can then access the dropbox from my phone if needed.

Drill some chain through the case will stop someone stealing the nas unless they are particularly keen.

Also remember the nas can be anywhere on your network as long as it has ethernet so you could hide it anywhere.

I will certainly look at options for uploading some offsite if possible, say the latest couple of days. I haven't settled on a camera system yet, might have to start another thread about that!

Depending on the camera software you should be able to limit active times and use motion controlled recording to limit how much you need to upload.

I've used dropbox and google drive storage in past

Woaaa, that top plate, will it perform as expected in an earthquake?, the best of it strenght has given way to enlightenment

Probably not. The requirements are available in summary form or in NZS 3604 (freely available). You can get strengthening plates where you need a large slot.

billgates: Hang it high up on your garage wall? This is where I am installing mine. Your equipment will struggle in the attic roof space due to heat as you have pointed out. https://cdlnz.com/RSFDS12-600 ps- Heat and looks is why we installed a gull grey roof instead of black. Our entire neighborhood is black roofs and all new builds continue to install black roofs.

Thats my suggestion too. Rectangular, long side horizontal, out of the way, easy access

Yes, black is very cool in my area (to look at.....)
