sonyxperiageek: No, I didn't go with the wifi option so I can't comment on that. However, I did ask the installer about them and he mentioned the ones that did get it installed, sometimes they would disconnect and so it was a pain for him to have to keep taking the whole indoor unit off the racks just to get inside the unit to reset the wifi module. Now he just puts the wifi module outside the indoor unit, on the top for easier access.

May be something to think about if you do get it installed。

I’ve had a 5kw Cora for just over three years. The wifi module is very easy to get to, its got a space that it clips into just under the cover. I’ve never had any issues with wifi adaptor and rate it 100% reliable.
I pretty much don’t use the remote, just the app. Once it was fitted it has never needed to come out.
You need to make sure the heat pump indoor unit has good WiFi coverage, mine would be about 6 metres from the router and through a wall. Nothing special about my router just a 6 year old Huawei on fibre.

Good point! We probably won't go with it either to be honest. I like the idea, but seeing their app has a rating of 2.2 on Google Play really puts me off. Especially if we can add a third party Wi-Fi module or something in the future if we really want that.

I don't have personal experience with Daikin HPs but do with Mitsubishi (every HP in my house is a Mitsubishi) and Panasonic (old house) HPs with Wifi module built in. Both their apps also suffer from some of the issues highlighted in the reviews for the Daikin app: limited functionality (compared with the remote) and clunky interface. Electronics makers mostly don't understand how apps work.

In my experience, once you accept the above and provided you are content to have the option to just be able to turn on your heat pumps remotely (we haven't tried automation but can confirm that Mitsubishi, for example, works with Alexa and a friend claims to be able to pair his Mitsubishis with a smart thermostat) for the cost of the module, then go for it. I certainly haven't experienced random wifi drop offs, not being able to locate my HPs in the app, or stuff like that. And I know one close friend with a house full of Daikins and he's never complained of that either.

My useless 20c.

Good comment. Some are wanting different things or functions from the App.

I can’t comment on many other manufacturers apps but have had some experience with Mitsubishi Electric a couple of years ago. The main problem with theirs was that all the changes went through their server so there was about a minute delay on changes.

With the Daikin app it connects directly through WiFi whilst at home so changes are instant. You log in to ‘out of home’ when away from home.
The Daikin app just replicates the main infrared remote functions but adds a few features.

Features I like...
Easier time scheduling. I set mine mainly so we dont forget to turn it off. Off at 9 am and off at 11 pm.
Being able to see indoor and outdoor temperatures.
Being able to adjust the temperature so my wife doesn’t know 😂, she sets it for 24 degrees on the remote, I turn it down to 21 on the app, no beeps. She doesn’t have the app.
You can operate multiple units from one app.

Feature I don’t like...
I can set the temp in .5 Degree increments on infrared remote but only 1 Degree increments on app. Not really a problem.

We have two heatpumps, Fujitsu. One downstairs one upstairs. Large house so decent capacity

Is there an option to upgrade relatively cheaply by:

Swapout the two outdoor units and swap out the two indoor units. Already plumbed, so a quick and easy disconnect/reconnect for outdoor and indoor, and our units have a value for resale/tradein?

Unless replacing the pipework is very difficult, there's not going to be much of a cost difference. You also don't want to do this if the new units use a different refrigerant or oil, as mixing them can cause them to react badly.

If necessary, the pipework *can* be flushed - but that's usually something you'd only do for pipework buried in the wall or that goes across a multistory building. If it's in exterior capping, just replace it.

I don't think the used value of heatpumps is particularly high - you run the risk of a second hand unit having a leak somewhere, which is $$$$ to fix.

Almost no responsible seller will get involved in the installation and sale of second hand heat pumps. Way too risky and too many potential issues/sources of arguments.

Maybe the newer models are different. I'll have to check mine when I'm back home.

I've heard good things about Sensibo, but I don't like how it can't tell me directly what the heat pump is doing e.g if it's actually off or on, as it's not directly connected to the unit.

Thanks! That's good to know about the demo mode in the app too, I've just given that a try and the app seems to cover most things. Maybe the only thing I can't see in the app is Comfort / Sensor, but otherwise just comparing it to google images of the remote control, it looks like it covers everything else.
