I'm in Christchurch and have used both Fisher Aluminium and Hagley Aluminium on various renovations. I found the service from both companies to be excellent and both very price competitive.
I agree with previous post - you won't get windows quoted, manufactured and installed within 2 months. 3 to 4 is probably a more realistic estimate.
well I see around 4 months will take this to be done....i think I will dedicate this winter to get some estimates and hope that before next winter I will have the double glazing done. 😢
thanks for the suggestions.

thanks I will contact them soon.... 😀
what type of double glazing do you recommend for the following rooms?
The options available are, Classic Double Glazing, Low E Plus, Low E Max, Low E xcel
Bedroom
Bathroom
Toilet.
Thanks,
That picture seems somewhat misleading. From memory the thermal performance gain of paying to add features (Low E etc) is relatively moderate. Thermal spacer is somewhat important, I didn't know they still did without that, maybe because I've only looked at PVC recently.

Low E glass reduces heat transfer both ways. For heat loss old single glazing is U6.25, normal double glazing glass with argon fill, 16mm air gap and a thermal spacer should be at about U2.5 while the Low E XCel product is U1.1 (lower is better). Beyond the glass the frame is an influence.
Good low e glass should make a noticeable difference to a house. I don't see any point in getting a lower grade product like the Low E Max as it will let in less natural light and retain less heat. Metroglass also has an Xtreme product that retains a little more warmth and lets in less heat which is useful for rooms that overheat from direct sunlight in summer but don't receive much direct sunlight in winter. XCel and Xtreme should come with a thermal spacer as standard which is important for thermally broken aluminium.
Aluminium with a thermal break versus uPVC, both with good low e, is unlikely to give noticeably different room temperatures. Nulook and Fairview thermal break aluminium products are available with multipoint locking like uPVC usually is.
timmmay: I think most joinery companies don't really want to deal with the public. They're more work than builders and more discerning of faults.

I had my bathroom, laundry, and toilet windows double glazed last year and went with Low E Xcel - it did not cost much extra and the specs show quite a jump in heat retention over the Low E Max. Now when we have a frost the ice is on the outside of the laundry window instead of the inside! You would have similar conditions in Chch so if it's within your budget I would recommend going for the Xcel. The glass is also meant to be clearer which will probably be nicer in the bedroom.

ok i will be getting install all around low-e + argon gas and tinted. estimate is around the first week of october, better doing earlier than rushing for the next winter. 😄
bfginger:why not?Why tinted? Green, grey or bronze?

Why tinted? Green, grey or bronze?
with that comment im guessing you have no reason for tinting
If you want privacy go for mirrored rather than tinted. You can see through tinted just as easily as normal, just lets a little less light through.
