Ahh, I just slid my plastic guards along, didn't put them all around the room then start painting.

So yeah I'd be in favour of leaving them in place while they dry instead of using a few and sliding them.

With new carpet lay, i wouldn't expect the removal to list newly laid carpet, also depends on how you lift it (

I use tarps, they're about the cheapest things you can get, won't let paint through no matter how much or how long it sits there, and won't be accidentally punctured and leak paint.

I found the plastic infused canvas sheets excellent- cost around $25 for a large sheet at Mitre10

Thanks for the advice team. I managed to finish the painting over the weekend with no casualties.

I ended up getting this canvas one from Bunnings, which worked really well and managed to get away with only a few small drops on it. I figured it won't be the last job I have in delicate places, so I might as well get something robust. At worst, it will be a good for little fingers painting haha.

I picked up some carpet protection film as well, which was perfect for sealing the carpet hard up against the skirting. I also used this guy as a guide where I was getting really close.

@Loismustdye sorry, I didn't see your post until after I had completed my shopping trip to Bunnings! Thanks for the offer though, I'd imagine thermal backed curtains do a good job.
