kiwijunglist: It did happen on a warm day, I wonder if the temperature threshold of the thermocouple is a bit low, eg. like 25C or something like that.

 

It could be anything or intermittent. Have it serviced under warranty. It's in home service for these appliances.

Ask her to show you how she leaves it. Perhaps it has a sticky knob that is holding the gas valve open. The whole point of the thermocouple is to shut off the gas if there is no flame. So if the gas is flowing with no flame it's not doing it's job. I'd be wanting to know why that is. I install hobs all the time and haven't struck it. Unless it is being operated incorrectly something certainly seems up.
