Lack of rinse aid (there's an indicator light), or having settings like half load, perfect speed, extra dry, etc all modify the run time. 29 to 44 is the time difference for either no rinse aid, or extra dry enabled.
Bosches have a removable filter at the bottom which needs cleaning out periodically. I say this because multiple people I know have only realised this once their dishwasher stopped working.
They are also prone to stuff ending up in the spinning arms which is not easy to clean out.
Do we actually need rinse aid in NZ? I was under the impression it was only really needed with hard water, and the vast majority of water in NZ is very soft. I certainly can't notice any difference at all from rinse aid in my Fisher and Paykel - would be a bit annoying to have 15 minute longer cycles if you chose not to use it.
I just use white vinegar as my rinse aid. Manual suggested it. Nice and cheap and while it's called "rinse aid" it's actually a drying aid, makes the water evaporate easier allegedly.
Internet suggests the vinegar can eat the rubber seals, but it's been fine so far, and if the manual suggested it I'm fine with that. YMMV.
