SomeoneSomewhere:

I think those are the ones I saw at a wholesaler.

But for hallways, I'm increasingly liking the idea of motion sensors. A cheap ceiling-mount PIR will set you back like $50.

I think I agree with you for hallways where you are nearly always just passing through. For a room however the manual over-ride is necessary. Possible with a ceiling mounted PIR in the same way I guess but probably less complicated with some sort of 2 switch solution.

A long set-point can work quite will in that application, but yeah.

To get auto-off-manual functionality, you need to either get another wire up to the sensor, or rely on the on-off-on type flashing of the switch.

The scenario is that our downstairs rumpus room is accessed through a door off the entranceway of our house. Off the other side of the rumpus room

... you see a dimly-lit hallway, and can hear sounds of heavy breathing coming from it. To your right is a guardroom with the skeleton of an orc with a rusty scimitar in its hand, and to your left are three passages with the middle one lit by a flickering torch. Just a general comment, a sketch of the layout is always useful with questions like this, even if just to forestall followup questions about "is the dead orc to the left or to the right?".

Lol! Fair call...

So, for clarity, the Orc is in the first door to the left and the poisonous swamp (the teenage boys bathroom) is the first door on the right. The villagers are revolting in the rooms further down the hallway!

Just to close this off....

I went with the GEM Lighting Wireless Light Switch Kit as referenced earlier. I got a kit with the wireless relay and two wireless PDL600-style light switches. Very easy to install and works perfectly!

Apparently if I had had a normal rocker switch in the light currently I could have even used that and only one wireless switch to save a few $. As it was, I didn't and by having two they both look and behave the same. One is mounted to the plastic box in the wall that the old switch was mounted to, the relay fits into the box (just), and the other one is just screwed to the opposite wall by the door.

Instead of a rocker switch, each switch panel just has a square white button which you press to toggle the state of the lights. Very easy and looking at them you wouldn't really know that they weren't normal light switches. Apparently the batteries are expected to last about 5 years as they only leap into life when you press the button.

All in all a good solution and very happy!

Thanks to all for the various suggestions. :-)
