Rodders1nz: Yep have asked them to install there own meter and offered to pay for it as well but was still told no

Price is not an issue then you should look at anyone supporting that meter. Trustpower if that's the one have some interesting incentives that work for some people:

Btw try calling PowerShop and tell them what you need. They tend to be a bit brainier about these things:

You will find that the meter is the property of the lines/network company not the retailer.

I know Counties Power and WEL networks all use the same meters that you have installed and quite a few of the other lines companies throughout NZ also use the same meters.

I don't believe that's correct. In some cases it is but in most cases the retailer originally paid for it to be upgraded to a smart meter so the retailer could save on reading.

'Metering' is broken out as a separate charge on your bill because your retailer might be contracting out to a different retailer or a third party who actually owns the meter.

It all depends on what network that you are connected to, some networks outsource the T.O.U / C.T metering all together and some do in the house, Counties are all in-house for Retail and All CT metering and the meters belong to them.

In this case, the OP is in Cromwell which looks like Aurora Energy is the network, so it could have been installed by a previous retailer as aurora claim they don't own the meter, the current retailer may not have control of the meter, or that transfer of the meter has yet to be completed.

Some lines companies have sold their meters.
