@Daynger I think wired in would make sense. Our Bosch alarm has one in the hallway and two channels free, which is good, but I'd really want three or four. I might talk to the alarm company. I don't have it monitored any more, wasn't worth the money for us.

You can wire them in parallel and daisychain more than one smoke detector off the alarm zone, if running low on zones ill divide the house up into areas for smokes or run all of the smokes off one zone, it only makes it harder for fault finding. One resistor per circuit and you cant zone double any smoke zones as they work on a NO going closed circuit as opposed to a NC going open for normal zones.

Thanks @Daynger that's interesting. Will an installer know what "one resister per circuit means"? Can you recommend a smoke alarm suitable to be wired into a Bosch alarm?

We would still need something for the laundry / office which are an extension. Probably a standard alarm, or the Cavius. Might still go Cavius wireless, depending on what seems best.

Installer should know how to wire, or get a new installer.

(its one end of line resistor for the whole smoke circuit, it wont work if you put resistors in every smoke.)

Bosch do a 4-wire self resetting smoke, as do most alarm supply places, but some are large and ugly, some are smaller and less ugly.

Thanks Daynger. Securely who purchased Safegard sent me a fairly confusing quote which is either $170 per smoke detector ("Smoke Detector ESP") or $170 for two, $90 an hour with an estimate of two hours, and a $100 callout fee. I might ask my electrician.

The Cavius might still be a go-er. The Orca alarms we have fitted in the main part of the house seem fine, I might just get a couple of Cavius to start so that we can hear if the one in the remote part of the house goes off, and add to the system with Cavius as others fail.

Thats a good markup on the smoke detector or one. the price for 2 is more reasonable.

Yeah, the only reference I can find in NZ is to this one which is $30 but suspect they're not in NZ. That's a healthy mark-up.
