NZ Kitchen companies are going to be in for a tough time when ikea launches.

yep, its weird because sheet goods havent gone up that much

The problem they will have is ikea cabinets are reasonably priced and excellent quality (with a 25 year warranty).

Some of their fronts aren't amazing but there's a large industry overseas making doors and drawer fronts for ikea cabinets.

Personally, I think it's better to build you own.  IME a workbench needs mass, before anything else.  It's possible to make something cheap and sturdy with simple tools from standard timber profiles and sheet of ply

YT is full of workbench builds form simple to ridiculous complexity and ingenuity, to works of art.  There is even a workbench sub on reddit.

The simplest approach IMO is to build a good solid, level bench, with a decent apron and a bench vice (if required).  Then, park some kitset cabinets underneath it for tools, parts, consumables etc.

Just looked up the cost of the cabinets now and its almost doubled in not quite 4 years.

As will those overpriced bookshelf sellers when you start to be able to get a billy and kallax without the parallel importer markups on them.

Im just slumming it with my falling apart warehouse shelves till ikea open. At that point I will redo the kitchen with sensible drawers instead of cupboards, and the collectable wall will become billys with glass doors like Adam Savage used to have in his cave. Might look at getting some for the Garage too, as low down cupboards really annoy me with access to the back of them.
