SomeoneSomewhere:

Get a pair of nice powdercoated grilles and cut/rivet them into the door?

You'll lose your geek license with that kind of talk around here!

AlDrag:

Love these ideas thanks guys. They all seem pretty easy. I should be able to action it.

The next problem will be figuring out how to get a duct there in a clean way for an exhaust.

Or you could just skip the opening the door problem , and just install one of these to put you exhaust tube out

Is that a cat door? Haha. This will work fine if I could offset it near the edge, because I still need to commonly open my garage door for bike access etc, so don't want a duct running across the middle of my floor.

Hmmm maybe there's a way to mount it at the top with a vent in the garage door that doesn't get in the way of the garage door opening. Ideally the vent can be closed to avoid letting in the cold air in winter when I don't need to vent.

I programmed my garage door to do that (smart house so just software). but in the end I needed to put in reed switches at both ends of travel so that I could use that information so the system knows where the door is (or was last time it was detected).

My door opener can't be programmed for one button to open and a different one to close so If I didn't do this it would be too easy for the door to get out of sync with where the house thinks it is.
