We used German Kitchens (Wellington) for ours.

It was expensive, but excellent quality. They do eggersmann and poggen pohl cabinetry.  The external panels are your usual wide selected, but the drawer bodies are metal internally, so last forever.

Although the overall price is a big number, it included full remodel of kitchen, marble, family room and laundry, all appliances and furniture ... $120k

My parents got Kitchen Studio in wellington to renovate our kitchen in upper hutt - in 1998.
3 houses and 25 years later, Mum is still very proud of the job they did and highly recommends them.

We used a company called kitset kitchens. They are from Wanganui but they do deliver. They have modules you can put together. They also organized the installation.

Thanks @michelangelonz. How's the quality of the products? How was the installation? How long ago did you do this, and how's it lasting? Any thoughts on costs?

The quality was really good. They did a couple of custom units for us as well. The installer was also really good. It was quite awhile ago in our former house. We recently got two a large pantry units from them for our new place, also very good. Will be doing our laundry area soon.

Pretty sure you can set up a quote with the website.

Cheers.

Interesting, thanks. I guess then you're your own designer, or you hire a designer? I'm not sure we're the best person to design a kitchen...

The kitchen I designed for my parents about 5 years ago, which is a lacquered (not foil) door surfaces and large, with a separate pantry (all cupboards with doors), and also laundry  came to about 80k, plus miele appliances on top of that. One I did for my brother which was more of a normal size was about 30k in 2017. I would budget 40-50k these days for a normal sized one. You maybe paying around 15k for the mitre 10 units  based on a kitchen installed 5 years ago(designer option) with by themselves without installation if you went that route. I would also suggest Blum drawer runners, they seem to be more reliable.

Interesting, thanks. We'd hope to come in under $80K, and we need to reline the area and do a few minor works as well. If we could do a decent quality kitchen for $50K we'd be happy enough. M10 I'll look at but will be wary.

FWIW when I did my current 4m x3.5m kitchen the cabinets from ikea came to around NZD$8k. With NZ GST it’d be around $10k-$12k by the looks from the Australian site. That’s using drawers under bench for everything but the sink.

Ikea use Blum hardware and they have a 25 year warranty.

Regardless of the recommendation, it will ALWAYS be more expensive than originally planned. A standard question asked by salespeople here in Germany is always:

“Do you want a kitchen that looks good only or one where you can cook, or do you want to have someone else do the cooking?„ 😁

We have Ikea and they design it for free. You have online access to the 3D design for changes as well. You pay the same price as when you buy it off the shelf to assemble yourself. Only if you want it assembled do you pay for the assembly service. If you opt for higher-priced series, the quality is perfectly acceptable for a kitchen.

The electrical appliances do not have to be from IKEA; anything standard will fit. To ensure this, you should have the planning done—then it is not my responsibility if something does not fit afterwards.  😁

I don't really understand the distinction between "you can cook, or do you want to have someone else do the cooking". I'm not sure I cook any different from anyone else...

This was my experience, I’m in Paraparaumu

I had to do a complete kitchen renovation this year due to a burst pipe destroying my chipboard floor and the cabinets, this re-gibbing etc..
Was not an insurance job as it looks to have been leaking a while and just finally burst so all out of my savings annoyingly.

Cost around $30k, kitchen size is around 3.5m x 3m

My sparky (DNS Electrical) designed my kitchen after looking at the design I paid for which did not have much storage and was pretty basic.

Bunnings supplied the kitchen.
Someone from Bunnings visited and measured everything up so I was not having to provide the measurements which I was happy with.
This was managed and billed as part of the electrical job so one less company to deal with.

Things I did not know/think of before starting that added extra cost were, Splash back, ply wood for floor, extra timber was required under the floor for support, levelling the floor, extra plumping due to old pipes, new roller door to replace inward opening door, Water filter, upgraded lighting, paying a plasterer, taking old kitchen to the dump.

Parts I did myself from memory were the demolishing of the old kitchen (sparky disconnected everything first to make it safe) cut out the old floor (bits that were not wheatbix) Install new floor, installing new plaster boards, painting, Install roller door, build the cabinets, install the fittings, cut holes for sink and stove top, kick boards, scotia and skirting boards and silicone.
Did the organising of the plumber, plasterer, tiler, vinyl installer, electrician myself.

Sparky installed the cabinets and bench top, made sure were level etc, provided a jig for drilling of holes for handles etc and of course did the electrical work.

Loving the new kitchen so far, love the soft close draws and cupboards and no issues to report.
As some one stated there maybe longer-term issues with fading etc but we will see and if need be the fronts can be replaced.

Very interesting and useful, thanks @mckenndk! Was $30K with new appliances or trades plus cabinetry?
