Thanks all, great info.

The plan is to wall mount the monitors, so only a laptop, keyboard and mouse will be there along with my skinny arms and not so skinny gut 😄).

I'm based in Christchurch.  1 piece solid wood prices seem out of budget so I'll be looking at either laminate benchtop (cabjacks), timber panels from Bunnings, or plywood. The latter two needing some DIY

Looking at the house plan (new house build) I should be able to get it in ok

Are you adding doors as well like a cavity slider? , good place to add your net work cabinets as well . We had my box built as part of an extension , it’s become the internet hub for the rest of the house . Added lots of power points and Ethernet connections behind the mointers and under the desk for laptops , mointers ect

Thanks all. so after some thinking here are some thoughts (all with batons around):

1) Buy 2 pieces of saljan benchtop from ikea (2460 x 38 x 900), cut both at 1.4m join with glue and plates underneath, and both on the middle floating wall bracket. (this leaves enough benchtop for the kids bedroom desks) $700 delivered. buy 4 600mm brackets ($570 eek).

Either use a support bar across (a T shape like better but would be more $$$), or just use some drawers in the middle to support it (this would mean the printer wouldnt fit behind tho :( and the benchtop would have to be rebated for the bar - I dont have a router (yet...)

2) or have a 700mm desk with the 600mm brackets, unlikely to need support bar?

3) or Buy 2 x stand up desks 😅

@33coupe Link?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I'll be genuinely interesed in how much your time and materials cost ends up being.  Often times I think I can do something cheaper than it "costs" but I learn my lesson when motivation diminishes, and cost seems to rise comparable to complexity.  Also, complexity might just be a less self-deprecating way of saying "I realised I don't know what I'm doing and I don't care enough to learn".

@33coupe Link?

It's saved in my cart not sure you'll be able to see. 1x 2800x800, $500 2x 900x500 ($200). The shipping is $300 though 😢 hence why I was looking at other options.

100% agree with all your points. Cost is a big factor, was quoted $3.5k for the 3 desks (not solid wood). But I have limited skills hence looking at the cabjacks option.

Although I have just seen 2x solid pine over height doors that would work for $200 each which is cheapest so far...😅
