linw: My man cave, AKA the rumpus room, only has several computers, couple of tables, book shelves and some model aeroplanes in it.

Mine has a computer (gaming) book shelves stuffed with books, gaming memorabilia, comfy couch that becomes a bed if necessary, posters, and sword.

Except I guess it's a woman cave.....

Finch: Bringing this thread back.

Does anybody have any news/pictures to share?

@SepticSceptic, have you built your cave?

20ft container after remediation. It was pretty rusted out along the bottom of both side walls. Boxed up along the sides, inside and out, and filled with concrete. Rust-converted, and painted.

Interior shot - after lining with plywood from shipping pallets - I was fortunate to get some large panels - 4m x 1.5m to start off with, and these are bolted to the sides, and served as a solid backing for the head-height shelves. Remaining ply was just glued on with construction adhesive.

Bit of a battle to keep it from being cluttered, as all the un-needed stuff from inside the home ends up in here - heaters, gas bottles, rubbish bags, cardboard boxes, etc. Grr ...

I recently scored these two sets of drawers that were left on the side of the road as freebies. They just required a few minor repairs to be fully functional as more storage in my man cave:

I have a 1m x 3m work bench with a swiveling vice. Open shelves underneath and floor to ceiling cubby holes at either end. Also an open fronted fishing rod locker. All in unfinished MDF.

The wall behind the bench (2m x 1.5m) is hung the with hand tools I use often or that are too big for drawers/shelves (large straight edge, bar clamps etc).

A couple of multidrawer tool boxes and a white board at on end. A little box for tubes of glue/sealant etc, a bulletin board and a shelf for fasteners at the other end.

I'll try and post some photos tonight.

We are moving soon so i will be saying goodbye to my man cave. Sad because I have mine just right, but happy because I get to fit out a new one.

In the new place I'll be putting in cupboards and drawers instead of shelves, as they are cleaner/tidier.

I'll be with sticking with the tool wall. Using wall space for storage of general purpose hand tools is very efficient use of space and those items are then readily accessible. I really recommend it if you have the wall space.

EDIT: I forgot to add lighting. Lighting placement is very important. If going with flourescent you want to have at least two separate lighting units or you can get a stroboscopic effect where it looks like a rotating tool is stationary.

Finch: Hey. Im looking into making myself a "Man Cave". Right now its just ideas but thought I would see what fellow Geekzoners have in their Man Caves.

Pictures would be great so we could all see what you have in your Man Cave :)

Hmm...380 old computers...oscilloscope, power supply, function generator, USB logic analyser, USB eprom/gal/uP burner , UV eprom eraser, soldering Iron, component drawers, Mac mini , Data Books, Service Mnauals (for TRS-80 / Systems-80/BBC, etc), couple of thousand books (fiction and non-fiction) , etc etc etc

I frequently drive with head phones on so I don't have to hear the sickly sweet auto tune rubbish the rest of my family listen to. I can and do notice emergency service because a) I can see b) I have rearview and wing mirrors and monitor them every few seconds.
