Correction, our deck is nailed down every 400mm not 600mm. It is 2.5m wide with a bearer down the middle and hangers on the house foundation and fence. Joists from house to fence (2.5m long). Decking is 32mm thick. This is nice and solid without having to pay for 40mm decking. Total size, 60 sqm. Height above ground, 20cm.
(Retaining walls have a 1m limit for consent exemption, and no load.)
Wilko: The dbh website is confusing things by having the two different heights in seperate places on their website.
You should see the Auckland Council web site listing 3 heights for fences (up to a couple of months ago). It was 1.8m, 2.0m and 2.5m. And these were all on general rules pages, not for specific suburbs.

timmmay: Consider what the water will do under there, you don't want it going under the house. When I redo my deck I'll do some kind of concrete foundation to channel water toward the drainage system.
After reading this post it reminded me about the hose that comes off the end of the current deck. That I will have to move. As for rain water its currently mostly concrete in the area, which goes to a low point on the driveway that has a drain, so it shouldnt effect that as it will just going through the deck onto the concrete, then to the drain.
Gooseybhai: Out of interest are you laying weed matting under the deck?
I find it a pain trying to weed spray the odd weed from time to time.
As per above, its mostly concrete that will be under the deck anyway, but hadn't thought of that either.
I will take the list into work tomorrow so I can get it quoted up. Hopefully be able to start on it in the next couple of months (100% dependant on how the quote comes back as to when it will be started)
