joker97: ok how about this - i had 2 nocria (new) 1 daikin (old). both are defrosting 50% of the time on a cold night/day. without fail. anyway, i could have claimed warranty but i have moved to a warmer house. the daikin however ... just keeps pumping the heat ...

can't beat that.

Bet it was incorrectly sized

It can also be due to outside unit placement ie put in a damper colder area no morning sun.

I have sold around 700+ of Fujtisus around the waikato along with other brands

While it is true that other brands such as Mistsi are better than Fujitsu when it comes to frosting up it should not be as you experienced.

Wow that is not large the smallest nocria is 6kw

That would mean 33m2 aprox for 6kw.

Do you have no insulation with 4m stud and/or live in the central plato/deep south island next to a river?

That would be my best guess I have never seen that sorta behaviour from a nocria.

My 5.4kw Fujitsu comfortably heated around 50m2 to 23 degrees when it was -2 the other day with out frosting once.

mind you it was a very cold locality - bought there because it had sun from 10 am -> sunset, and south shore views but man the it was battered by the southerly 24/7. still ...

joker97: i have a feeling reliable heating depends on the COP. the mitsis and the daikins all have really crap COPs, work amazing. ?

I have heard that some models have heating elements to boost their output on really cold days. That is why they can maintain their heat output. And why the COP drops off quickly when it gets cold outside.

I suspect they have heating elements in the outdoor units, to prevent them icing up.

Looks like a good unit, make sure when you get one be sure you get the correct model and they don't try to sell you last year's model what will have a slightly different model number.

I have that model number saved everywhere :D

And can get it for about $2400! (+ installation).
