This website might help: http://www.smarthomedb.com/

Very little info there, unless I missed it somehow.

Quick look into 'hubs' and seems like main options are Vera, SmartThings, and openHAB. Wink now bankrupt? But also missing local control (needs internet connection). Hometroller higher end option. Annoying Zwave frequencies are also different for NZ/AU vs other regions - further complicating things.

Smartlock?  Sheesh are you not better of just buying a prox reader and electronic strike for your existing alarm system?  These are great as you can have your arms loaded with groceries and push into the door to open

Interesting didn't look at that as an option. Electronic strike usually bit ugly/commercial though. Install obviously a lot more complicated and depends on the door and frame. e.g. mine is metal. Not seeing too much of an advantage.

You can get descrete strikes. Benefit is that you disarm your alarm while unlocking the door at the same time and only one device to manage.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

This is entirely possible with any lock/alarm as long as they can both be controlled via a common platform. Once again showing the power of something like openHAB/HomeAssistant. Vendor agnostic home automation is the only way forward IMO.

I have a Nuki smart lock (which is bluetooth controlled via an IP bridge with a REST API) and a legacy alarm system which I have hacked with a few Arduinos to give full control/monitoring. I can unlock the door when the alarm is disarmed with literally a couple of lines in an openHAB rule.

Finally, the Kevo 2 should arrive probably with enough wrapping paper to re-wrap the whole front-door in a two weeks so, I'll update the thread on my progress.

The Kevo2 arrived today, here are my thoughts:

  1. First thing I noticed was the lack of instructions about how to install it.
With my knowledge from installing the Kevo1 model, this model was much simpler and the old lock was quickly removed and the new Kevo2 installed
  2. The Kevo2 unit felt more solid than the original model and has a few interesting additional components in the box!
  3. The android app software for this device wasn't available from the NZ Google Play store so I had to search for an unauthorised website to download it from.
  4. In order to use the app you need to register yourself on the https://mykevo.com/login website
  5. Once registered and with the app installed can setup 'owners', 'users' and 'gateways
  6. You need to setup yourself as an 'owner' first - there can only be one owner for a lock - just follow the instructions on the video
  7. Then with your smartphone paired with the Kevo2 you can start sending out ekeys  / requests for others to set themselves up as users as they need to be users to use an ekey.
  8. Ekeys users are defined as - 'anytime' other members of the household; 'scheduled' for example, the cleaner where you can limit access to certain days / hours if you want it; and finally 'guest' with unlimited one time access.
  9. I quickly manage to mess up the ekey allocation and used up bothe my  'Free' ekeys setting up my wife as an anytime user...
  10. BTW ekeys are charged up approx two yankee dollars each... this could become quite expensive
  11. I then realised so look into ordering the Kevo Plus additional service but this became an issue when I realised that their ordering system is only setup for american & canadian addresses.
So I'm now waiting to hear from them

... to be contined
