To start with I'm sure my power meter is reading somewhere close, yes it is an Elto and a couple of years old. I have always found it quite accurate on the low wattages, such as the 10W LED bulb I tested, my 20 and 80W soldering irons etc. I don't know if I can post links here (as I'm new here), but I'll try. Reading that post it seems that heat pumps that take a long time to work (ie keep compressor cold and only start when needed) has lower standby power consumption.
Yeah it would seem that way. What I don't understand is who would think it's a good idea to make a unit that consumes so much power in standby mode? Given that most people don't use their heat pump much in the warmer months, except for air con when it's really hot, I think it's just plain stupid. And then the retailers of such products say that inverter technology is way more power efficient than the older style system......this is completely ignoring consumption when not in use. Personally, I don't think the retailers know about this, I'm going to make sure my local retailer knows.
Some units may just have an anti frosting heater running whenever the unit isn't in cooling mode for the sake of not having the heater linked to a thermostat.
