How many people can you cook for with the 2200? I'm more interested in this than the 3000 series as it's considerably cheaper, but I'm worried it may be not large enough for the family (4) plus guests.

Also, did you bother buying either of the stands?

I've checked the Consumer test of BBQs and interestingly all of the top seven are Weber models.

I can cook a size 16 chicken plus veges for 4 on it - but for stuff you BBQ you can basically feed an unlimited number - as its only 2/3 min a side for things like chops/steaks etc.

I bought this model after a friend catered a party for 30 using it - had the lamb roast on slow before the party - and then did the quick stuff during the party.

The big one is a lOT bigger an IMHO caters to the man market of I need a big one! I don't think it's necessary unless you need to roast 2 chickens simultaneously - ours would fit a reasonably sized turkey

WE bought the stand because our outside space is a just a grassy muddy patch at the moment - I used it on the wooden outdoor table and that worked too! The cover is robust and given that we are keeping it outside with a view of the sea that seemed a wise investment.

I suspect that the reason they rate so highly in the Consumer tests is for a simple reason - they're extremely good.

We've got the 3000 series on a stand. Xmas dinner for 12 - 2 x butterflied legs of lamb + some grilled/roasted veges - no problem.

The models with thermostat also come with a deeper lid - so better if you were to do a turkey or 3 or 4 chickens or whatever.
There's a small SS perforated box smoker as an accessory, I've done 2 large sides of salmon at a time with this - works superbly. Weber also sell a copper or brass wire brush accessory well designed for the job. Burn it off for 20 mins, then the enameled grills can be brushed clean.

Thanks I snapped this one up. It's sitting in the garage awaiting assembly at the moment :)
Extended warranty to 4 years for $39, if it lasts for 4 years it would cost $110 per year, well worth it
Can look into something more solid by then..

I'm wondering exactly the same thing. Can anyone comment on the brand as it's currently available and/or this model in paricular?

It's certainly a lot of metal for the money, but I'd hate to buy this and be disappointed, especially to have another underpowered BBQ with poorly distributed heat that takes ages to cook anything. We don't use ours much because of this, and I'm just not keen on the idea of a BBQ being a disposable commodity.

My wife's keen on the portability of the medium-sized Weber (2200), and while it may be a lot more expensive (by the time a stand's added) and offers a lot smaller cooking surface, I'm still drawn to buying something that seems to get universal praise and will last a long time. Still, could still be convinced something like this Gascraft offers better value...

Edit: one of the earlier threads I posted a link to earlier started with a question on the earlier version of this unit; the final post on it may be referring to this brand?

I measured it, it's the full height of the steel hood, so it's about 16cm.

I'm not adding carcinogens to my food with charcoal, and I don't have to sit around it making sure things don't burn.

Just cooking the food by applying heat can create carcinogens, that grill is pretty cool but I don't know how practical it is unless you live in a really sunny area.
