afe66:
Techmoan reviewed this a couple of months back.
Pretty straight up and honest review there, loved that delivery sketch.
do they come with any chimes you plug in? wondering how you hear it if you dont have your phone with you or someone else is at home without the app?
didnt think about this when I ordered it... might need to order the chime thing as well

The doorbell will actually make a noise!
But you can order the additional ringers - called a 'Chime' - especially if your not planning on standing by the front door when it 'rings'...
yeah up stairs I doubt I'll hear it... better order a chime... sigh....
edit: ordered 2 chimes.. one for upstairs one for downstairs (big house)

ordered one last week off ring.com (now in NZD and $5 shipping to NZ, couldnt find one in a Mitre10). coming from Singapore, will be here in a couple of days.
Noel Leeming sell it. Same price and you get FlyBuys. I was considering one of these in our new home, but I'm going to wait to see if they release a new version in the next year or so.

gez I wish I new this earlier :) was suppose to arrive today, with courier for delivery, will be tomorrow.
The Ring video doorbell and Samsung Smartthings technologies can work together at the moment via IFTTT... but this is better
Looks like there is a new version called "Ring Video Doorbell Pro".
got mine today, just installed. after seeing the pro was worried I would have to upgrade due to size, but nope, my door frame is basically a perfect fit for it, about 1mm either side. so yay.
likely subscribe to cloud recording for NZD$4.5 a month.
just waiting on the chimes to arrive now....

Doesn't look like Noel Leeming has the Chime add on. From a WAF perspective I'd love to see Ring bundled with the Chime.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
I get why it's not bundled. If you have an existing door bell, you dont need the chime, so why charge people for something they dont want? But they should also do a chime bundle. Or make it very clear that without the chime or existing wired in door bell, you will need a smart device to use it.

Wonder how long it will be before the normal RING is obsolete?
i think it will be a while, they want to keep getting the monthly payments for the cloud services. if they stop supporting the standard/original ring, these payments would stop.

I think the original Ring Video Doorbell won't be obsolete for a while yet (say, two / three years?) as this doorbell requires power... and while the original doesn't have 'live view' it doesn't need power either.
