Lots of sites around that you can get so much stuff dirt cheap freight free from China.  I've certainly kept our inwards goods staff busy with my items delivered to work.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Sam.

Are those torches as good as they claim? I saw them a while ago and dismissed them as over-hyped. Might have to have another look.

Thanks for the lightning cable link.

Cheers.

I would say that 200m - 500m is a bit of an exaggeration. If it does achieve that distance it is very faint. But yes, it's a very impressive torch. Easily does up to 100m and you can see the beam like a laser. Definitely worth the $5.

As for the lightning cables, they're very good and I've never had any problems with them, but definitely use them at your own risk. : )

Edit: 3x AAA. I tend to use rechargeable batteries and it chews through them pretty fast.

Watch the both way ones. I've had them freak out when making 12ish v from a car as the car goes over and under 12. It was one with a current limit too which I was using on a 10w led and it was overdriving it during engine cranking as it seemed to forget about the current limit as it moved from buck to boat and back quickly.

I have used a few of that particular module to give a stabilised 24v without any issues.

I tortured the first one to see if I could get it to play up. Handled rapid switching from 24v-12v-24v-12v without any fluctuating of output voltage.

Willuknight: I have a Ford Mondeo too, and I get a hum that changes with the revs if i use the line in with my phone , it's terrible. Please let me know how this goes :)

Get a Ground Loop Isolator. Either from your favourite overseas supplier or jaycar.co.nz. Jaycar have one with 3.5mm socket and plugs fitted. Works well.

Where do those bad boys go Stu?

It looked like they grounded the alternator casing or something last time I looked.

I'd considered one of those magnet wrap around chokes on my car stereo also for this problem.

Something like this works well with phones/powered bluetooth receivers etc

They have other options for hard-wired applications.

Not home, but car... near enough?

I just received this and it's excellent... my car doesn't have BlueTooth, and the Audio line-in is inside the glovebox (How stupid is that, Ford Mondeo). Finally I can conveniently play music from my phone! And charge my phone.

Are you in Auckland? I'm always buying these things, and they never work properly in Auckland.

I don't need anything with high fidelity, I just want to be able to listen to podcasts without loud bursts of static. Have probably tried four or five different Chinese FM transmitters and they're all rubbish. I never learn my lesson. Then again, Xiaomi stuff tends to be good quality for the price. I'll probably give in and try it...

Do any of the HUDs actually work? What about the multi reflections from the multi layered screens?

BTW, great inspirations here!

I have a cheapy i currently use, sometimes pickup static and channel hop a bit. but once you move out of the range most of the cheap ones are preprogramed to be limited to its normally okay.

There are a few areas i have noticed that have rather powerful transmitters for some reason that tend to blanket anything, but generally all i need to do is slide my hand slightly closer so the signal is a tad better which is normally a case of just dropping 3rd or 5th anyway.

Im at the crossroad between replacing the headunit for a direct line and the whole car itself. im pretty picky about audio, im used to listening to decent gear at home..

I dont tend to have much trouble around auckland, i do Generally stick within the north-west areas though. Im out to go somewhere and return to my trees and rolling hills ;)
