I've got OpenHAB running on the Synology NAS for my home automation, and am trying to find a solution that will act as a z-wave hub with minimal amount of equipment and space taken up on the desk. I don't think I can plug in one of those z-wave usbs into the Synology.

The vera edge hub is a bit smaller than a modem and has wifi, so it can just live in a cupboard somewhere. You don't normally need to physically access it as you connect with a web browser or phone app.

Well, the unit I bought from Amazon was delivered in 12 days and seems good.  Easy to fit (after some initial complications because my door is a double one), easy to programme codes and easier than a key lock to use.  Recommended if you want a simple option without automation interface:
