If you play Bunnings and Mitre 10 off against each other you can get it for less.  When we bought it one had it for $299 and the other $298 so we got 15% off $298.

 

The hose is absolutely brilliant, the retract mechanism has been working flawlessly, it even has a guide to lay the hose nicely on the reel.

 

We've had ours for a couple of months now and are loving it.

 

Did exactly this at mitre10 with the same piece of kit.

Its quite pricey but the quality and convenience is well worth it.

if we ever sell I'll probably take it with us, hah.

Hopefully the threads on it will be compatible with NZ hose fittings. NZ uses BSP threads, same as Australia, Europe and practically the rest of the world. While USA uses a special coarse thread just for garden hose taps, And their internal plumbing also uses a different thread.

Metal hose is expensive, short, and probably a bit of a pain. Just get a Gardena, not the cheapest, they're fine. No hose is kink free, just get a reel and untangle as required.

Mine expanded out the side like a giant pimple then popped. It was inside since aquarium filling. Fun.

Also they depend on pressure within the hose to expand.  If the supply tap is open, but the nozzle on the discharge end of the hose is closed, they expand nicely.

But when you open the nozzle, pressure reduces and they shrink back somewhat.

You would need impressive water supply to have them stay expanded while discharging water.

Because M10's are independently owned, they all have different product ranges and the only ones on the site are the common ones to all of them. At least you can try to buy from them unlike bunnings.

Never used or know of anyone with one. Looked impressive in the telly advert.

That's the one we've got - you can get them for a lot cheaper else where (mine was an impulse buy at a home show...)

In hindsight, I would have just gone with a decent gardena hose.

Note that they do give the length in feet - it's possible to get confused with meters and then be disappointed when you get it home.

Gone through a couple of hoses in the last decade, I splashed out on a stainless steel hose a wee while back (spur of the moment thing, I regret spending the money on it) - however it is a good hose - as long as you don't try to run more than one sprinkler off it - for some reason if you have a second sprinkler, the pressure dies completely on through to the second sprinkler - possibly the internal diameter is less. (This kind of thing: https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/as-seen-on-tv-metal-garden-hose-15m/R2355294.html) I have found that the stainless steel hoses are usually quoted in feet, rather than meters and do tend to be on the shorter side.

 

Our cheap $20 hose reel has given up the ghost (and leaked like a leaky thing) - I've got one of these mounted to the side of the house: https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/number-8-metal-hose-hanger/p/238232 - I'm quite particular on coiling up the hose after usage, so finding that method a lot more successful.

 

 

 

Do you know what brand of hose from the Warehouse? Some must be better than others.

I've had one that costed about $10 and within 6 months it was brittle and cracked everywhere. Unfortunately I couldn't find the receipt otherwise I'd have taken it back and demanded a refund under the Consumer Guarantees Act.

I fully expected for the price it to be a bit kinky, and I was ok with that, as I didn't expect to be moving it much, but I expected something advertised as a garden hose would be able to survive more than 6 months in the garden.

I've noticed other garden stuff from the Warehouse seems to suffer from lack of UV resistance. I have a little mini-greenhouse for seed-raising, and within a year, the plastic is crumbling.

we have very high pressure (one tap, left high on purpose) and had bulging and split hoses, connections that pop off

tried the Wetta brand from bunnings and have been very impressed. got the 50m trade hose and the fitting pack. fittings are solid and grip hard
