F&P will charge $125 + parts to fix\service, and with the age of it, that's a deposit on a new one.

Are F&P good machines or just pricey Haier's? LG? Panasonic?

$125? I'd be getting it fixed then.

Deposit....I hate paying stuff off.

haier, crap. F&P, well there isn't any now, it's Haier with a different badge.

Exciting, but doesn't replace the color TV-set. Go for a Miele - you won't regret a higher price.

BTW Bosch are exactly the same (inner spare/parts) like Siemens/Neff/Constructa - only the outer design and type naming is different.

Batman: Our 10 year old mid range German made Bosch front loader has traveled across continents, been assaulted by drunk relatives, cramped in clothes and drowned to the neck by lazy man of the house and had never missed a beat.

The only thing to get used to is it takes forever, i manually add water because i don't trust how it tries to dry clean my soiled clothes, and once you press start you can't put anything else in.

My parents have a newish miele front loader, and it has quick wash for 20 minutes, or a quicker wash for 10 minutes. Their previous frontloader was an asko, and it took hours to do a wash cycle. So some of the older ones do seem to take longer than the newer models.

10 mins! That's awesome. Does it put in enough water? Our Bosch thinks it's a dry cleaner.

Our Miele has a 20 min wash. But a better one is an hour. The 20 min is mostly just a rinse.

In the top right corner there is a limit switch that stops the machine when it goes out of balance. These switches corrode over time and become over sensitive. A slight tweak might make it work again while you decide whether to replace the switch or the whole machine.

One of the benefits of rural living is having your own well. We are in central Rapaura which is where the aquifer is at its best. When we needed a new well to be drilled, although they went down to 15M to get the cleanest water, the bit was coming up wet within 2M ! We are supposed to take no more than 15 cubic metres a day, but there is no control of that. Blenheim would be completely dry, and we'd still have plenty of water here, plus it tastes lovely. The downside is that it cost us $6k when we needed a new well and pump, but our rates are much less than town rates because we don't use town water, we are not connected to a sewer, and we don't have rubbish collection. So we need power to pump the water, and pay for Red Top bin.

We use a F&P front loader out of choice, and rarely use a program that takes longer than an hour, but we do use a higher temperature for sheets. The Marlborough winds take out the creases, so we rarely need to iron anything.

@WyleECoyoteNZ did you end up getting a new washing machine? The fault might also be a bowl check fault. The F&P machines try to self correct from certain faults. But there is a fault that can take as much as 4 hours before the machine gives up and displays a fault code.

I have the service manual on my computer if you want me to look up any fault codes. I will look up how to disable restart mode. So it will display a code as soon as a fault is detected.

Not as yet. Old unit is behaving itself, for now.

Well, time to bring this thread back to life again....

After posting back in Dec'17 saying the Old faithful F&P Top Loader was dying, it came right.

But now, 9-10 months later, there is a new problem. Now, it won't go into a fast spin, it did once on the weekend go into the spin mode and complete with a empty drum, low water, cold temp and medium spin.

However, on a low water, cold temp fast spin it will rinse, and start to go into the spin cycle then stops and then then just constantly beeps away, the same beep that you get from a end of wash beep.

pricey Haiers.

Forget it.

Actually LG came out tops in Consumers reliability brands for washing machines.

Not in general, specifically washing machines.

Top or front, up to you. They really do take ages though.

Could drive you nuts waiting if there is a lot of washing.

@WyleECoyoteNZ The wash progress LEDs show a binary code. Convert that to decimal and that is your fault code.

The right most LED means 1, next to the left means 2, then 4, 8, 16, etc. Add up the numbers that relate to the LEDs that are on. And that is the fault code. Or just take a photo of the front panel while it is beeping and post it here.

Our old 5.5KG F&P top loader started occasionally not draining with error 37 (00100101) and a bit of a disconcerting burning smell - thought the pump might be on the way out. Pulled the whole thing to pieces and while there was nothing in the pump, there was a bunch of that white sound-deadening stuff that's all around the bowl that must have come loose and had got wrapped around the shaft of the impeller, not to mention 10+ years of fest inside the pump and hoses.

Got rid of the fluff off the shaft (no good having a fluffy shaft) and waterblasted the inside of the bowl etc clean, and it's been running like a charm since. Actually cleans stuff properly now too, I think it was so dirty inside that some of the gunk would get on clothes etc.
