Ha , you should see the inside of my compost bins , full of them, happily doing their job.
A few wander inside , I just wack em with a shoe or coat them in flyspray.

You'd need to convert the whole section into concrete to get rid of them all.
Try putting barrier spray around the outside of doors & windows . But its a battle you cant win :-)

Truly, they are the bogan of cockroaches. They'll be pouring in for the Beach Hop.

To add - are these (harmless) Bush Roaches or the nastier, dirtier and hard-to-get-rid-of American or German roaches?

If the former, then they are probably coming in from outside on the regular, rather than breeding/living inside...might be harder to stop that!

+1. I live next to native bush and you just learn to live with them, there's an infinite supply right next door, you just get used to seeing the odd one. I pick them up on a piece of paper, smash them on the deck, and in the morning the ants have removed any trace of them.

We have neighbours (furriners) who were quite embarrassed to have cockroaches in their house, until they were informed that this was a natural consequence of living next to native bush.

Cockroaches seem to be a lot more widespread than they used to be. Especially the larger american type.

Of course it would be the American roaches that are obese, not the Aussies :-).

STRONGLY RECOMMEND you get some boracic acid powder. I guarantee this will work - 100%.

The local either Bunnings or Mitre10 had a whole pallet of this stuff sitting in their display aisle, so you may want to check them if there's one nearby.

There are places in NZ you can get this, but I use this place.

Permex is permethrin, it'll do a better job at killing the cats than the cockroaches.

At my place, I have lots of little brown lizards that I don't want to harm. As my understanding is they eat lots of bugs.

If they're rainbow skinks then they're Aussie invaders that have displaced the native skinks. My place is crawling with them. They're cute, but still taking space away from the locals.

Never seen a rainbow skink, but the native NZ skink is common around Auckland.

My neighbour is big on NZ nature stuff, she says that most of the skinks you see are Aussies, not locals. Apparently the rule of thumb is that if you see a skink, statistically it'll be an Aussie.

We saw a decent reduction in the number of those Gisbourne roaches round our place when we got rid of an old rotting fence, and other random wood left by the previous owners.

Next step is to seal up a few holes and gaps that they're probably coming in thru.

I have never seen them in my compost bins. Only worms and slaters. I am wondering if the compost bin is composting properly and producing heat, if there are cockroaches in it? Or maybe there is a big nest nearby?
