If are spending all  this cash, I wouldn't worry that you have the very cheapest power supplier. Just a reasonable priced one, and don't get locked it to a long term contact.

 

If the power costs you an extra $50 a month that is only $600 for a year. I suspect thats peanuts compared to your overall budget.

 

Change back from a established supplier who knows what they are doing when your build is done :)

I'm going to switch electricity providers tomorrow.  They shouldn't have misled me.

Another twist.  Energyclubnz have ordered the meter change.  But they also told me that if I have more than 15kVA provisioned at my property, then Wellington Electricity will reclassify me as a commercial user.

 

This means that my fixed line charges go up by 50% (charged per day), but my variable line charges drop by 50% (charged per kWh).  This looks like a win to me unless my spreadsheet is wrong.
