What a waste of a thread. Many have landlines, many get snail mail, when they are extinct re open this thread. Actually then there is no need.

Short story, its evolution, just because you and I are early adopters, not everyone is. Or rename the thread, "When is the Post Office being retired"

I specifically do not want people to be able to send things to me on paper as an information carrying media, its super inconvenient etc.

If it can all get sent back to the sender automatically that would be great, if NZ post can add a sticker to it with correct email address on it, would be even better.

Otherwise I will keep my process of scanning things that arrive on paper to google drive so I can search it, and then returning it to the sender in their envelope so they can dispose of it.

Too bad for you that you'll need your original birth certificate, etc on paper if you're applying for a passport.

Good call! I have had to put two no circular signs on ours as it seemed to depend which way they came down the street. The only issues I see are the ones that choose to live in the past.. ie Land Transport posting rego tickets, Stats NZ posting census codes, Ministry of justice posting speeding tickets etc...

Yes good point, I don't know why LTNZ don't just let people print out the rego tickets, looking at them apart from them being on a plastic type paper there is nothing special about them, surely anyone that checks the validity of them scans to a real-time database to check authenticity.

While I wouldn't object to being able to print my own, they wouldn't survive long. First day there was any hint of condensation on the windscreen would effectively destroy the ink-jet print out.
Might have to mandate "Print then laminate" for home printing.

Definitely starting to get tempted to put No Circulars signs on mine given the current torrent of junk mail that is turning up. None of which I ever really read.

Aussie (NSW) has done completely away with rego stickers, it is all done off the number plate now.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

We think its a neat solution to an old school problem.

Jury service, legal requirement. Not responding wont be an excuse if a summons against you.

Any government fine, which ignored starts to accumulate until there are consequences...

Things which require proof of address.

I get you don't want a box but the rest of world doesn't work that way

Sometimes the government doesn't trust itself. When I needed to renew my drivers license, one of the things needed was proof of address. Yet they refused to accept the reminder letter saying that my license will be expiring soon. As proof of address. Despite it having my full name and address, it having been posted to me. And it having been posted by the government.
