Now the top half of the bottle push the cap end into the soil fill with water and use it as a slow irrigation system. Can be used in pots, tubs, gardens and glass houses. Usefull if you are going away for a few days.
Going to try this
We have a 4 station Holman Dial Ezy that has worked flawlessly for ten years. We bought it at Oderings in Christchurch. Don't know if they still sell them?
Bunnings sell a battery powered 4 station Holman Water Wizz that looks interesting.
Hi Morgenmuffle. In relation to your greenhouse ventilation I have a smaller greenhouse than you but use several methods to keep it cool. I'm in Auckland and last summer the greenhouse was getting over 40 deg. so I added the auto vent openers
some are better than others. I got 2 from the greenhouse company Wintergardenz, but they are expensive $120, but really good quality. 2 I got from trademe 1@ $40 1@ $10 they are made from much thinner metal, the springs and pins are off a lighter and smaller design. This is the first summer of operation but appear to be working as designed so far.
I also put up shade cloth inside the greenhouse
I installed a solar powered extractor fan on the sunny apex end
from Jaycar
I have a 600 x 600 3 louvre vent/window at the bottom on the shady end to give crossflow
I have installed a screen door on the entrance that can be slid across the front on hot days or pushed back and both polycarb doors closed on cold
and it looks like this on the inside
PM me if you want any details
How long ago did you get that vent from Jaycar, as it looks very similar to the one i have been trying to source but it was discontinued.
Yep they get hot, according to my thermometer in there today it was just over 40 deg, so have had to leave the doors wide open as even the roof open wasn't cooling it fast enough
When i set it up I ut it in behind some deciduous trees, so it would get shade in summer and max sun in winter, but it hasn't quite worked out that way

Yep that's the one. I got it a bit over a year ago. Seems like I should have got a couple while they were on special, although there have been no problems with the current one, but it never hurts to have a backup

Burnsco sell solar powered vents for boats and campervans. I have no idea how good they are. I just happened to notice one when I was in there recently.

Eden sell auto openers, we have them on our glass house and they work great

Also shade paint is an inexpensive solution
My wife makes up her own shade paint for our glasshouse.
Pretty sure it is a solution of flour, water, and dish washing liquid. Seems to work quite well.
I have got some sort of shade sail contraption that can be raised and lowered over the glasshouse, but it needs restitching and i am still trying to figure it out as i am not 100% sure I have all the pieces
I have just got one of those magnetic flyscreen doors, might try that as may cut down the number of bugs/cats/chickens that get in when the doors open
as to the auto openers i am trying to find ones that look compatible with my steel and glass windows, a lot of the ones i see the anchoring/attachment points don't look compatible

We brought our place back at the start of March and it came with its own Garden mission, including a big patch of Bamboo!
.... Now the problem I have is to kill the root system, I've had a suggestion of amitrole which I'm using when I kick new shoots over then spraying them but looks like this mission will take a few years unless I go hire a digger to rip the root system out.
Ive been in a 20year battle with bamboo . Amitrol doesnt work.
Ive killed some of it off, other parts still alive & well. The spreading type of bamboo will sprout under you house, spread & try & sprout under your neighbors house .
If its spread it can be a bugger to kill, you have to kill it all, and the roots wont just be in your section
