We've had the electric roman blinds for six months, we really like them. They block more light than curtains. They do make access to windows more difficult, but we simply close windows before we close the blinds at night. The seal well against the window frame so they're great for insulation, when they're closed you don't feel the cold rolling off them as much, though double glazed are good anyway.

If you put them over a door they'd probably need to go over the frame and ideally sit above the door frame. Not sure if I'd do that or not.

The last two places I lived had Roller Blinds on every window & ranch slider & glass doors.   At first I liked them, excellent privacy at night & keep most light out.

That initial impression wore off quickly because when down, the blinds greatly impeded any opening or closing of windows, ranch sliders, doors, exit/entry, letting the cat in, etc.

We also live on an exposed property where windy days turn the blinds into noisy sails, flapping & banging against the aluminum windows, most irritating.

However.... YMMV :P

Surely that’s not a reflection on roller blinds per se - any type of blind or curtain in front of a ranch slider, opening window or door is going to have an effect on access and blow in the wind. I guess curtains at least will blow about - but do it with less noise.

Possibly, since our blinds had metal bases.  Rollers are stiffer than curtains though more like cardboard vs paper.

We have roller blinds.  Really disappointed as they let in light around the sides.  The best blinds I have seen for excluding light are the blackout coated concertina/honeycomb blinds that run in vertical tracks.

You can get some that don't and have guides down the sides. We have one in a bedroom and it completely blocks out all light.

Assuming you're referring to rollers blinds I looked for some tracked options but couldn't find any (small town).
