Using the BBQ is a summer activity so I think that covers the power source.

304 is an indoor grade.  What we really need (but will never get) is 316.

red_xsi: 304 stainless is the way to go

Check out the masports

hehe, from my water treatment days I was thinking that also...

no one would ever pay for that anyway though.

Noticed how the charcoal BBQ models are all quite thin and enameld/powder coated these days.
When we were young we had those round aluminium bbqs with 3 legs etc.

My new marine BBQ is mirror polished 18-9 grade SS.  Not sure how this compares with 316.
They aren't cheap.  It seems to be holding up very well - still looks almost as new from the outside.  (Magma brand).
I don't know what grade SS the previous one I had was - but it was an abject fail, discoloured almost immediately, then started rotting away from the inside out.

Edit : 18-9 does seem to be close to - or a variation of - 304.

Saw this at the warehouse today.
Labour weekend only special.

What appealed was it looked to be entirely SS, frame and all, rather than just the hood and front burner control strip areas.

maybe some one has experience with Gasmate BBQ Entertainer Portable Gas ($250)??? vs Weber Q1000 ($400).

We want small BBQ for our camping trips and it should last years. + it will be used on balcony to host BBQ parties :) we big meat lovers (steaks, roasts, etc)... so yeah...

I prefer weber, but don't want to overpay if Gasmate BBQ Entertainer will as good.

Im looking at a small bbq that can be used on a balcony.

Id quite like to go charcoal but im not sure if things will be too smokey.

Countdown has a weber clone for $99. Comes with the ash catching as well. Looks to be one of the better deals if going cheap.

A few days late, but I've been looking at the Weber portables.

They have the small Smokey Joes, available Mitre10 $149. Tiny bloody thing, and I've been hearing complaints about the vent design on them.


Browsing around I have seen that there is a bigger model available - the Smokey Joe Jumbo

Nearly as big a cooking surface as the regular charcoal Weber, and has similar vent design. The lid catch cum carry handle looks real good.

Exactly.  Not sure the point either.


I've thought that for a while about Gas BBQ's too though.  Charcoal contributes to the flavour, the rest just recreates a hot plate outside.
