jamesrobert: I've had four outages since joining EK (tripping fuses). It never even occurred to me to contact EK. I just phoned Unison (the lines company) using the phonebook that I keep for these occasions, and they came out and fixed them within the hour. Maybe the problem is with Wellington Electric!

Each region in Wellington does things differently, which you'd know if you read anyone's posts.

If I have a fault I'will call my electricity provider - Powershop. I don't even know who the lines company is - and I don't care to know either.

I'll switch at some point I'll switch back to Flick because of this, when prices stabilise. If it wasn't for this I'd have stayed with EK, because I'm a bit tired of watching prices on Flick.

In Auckland at least, Wholesale prices are pretty much back to where they used to be. Im already using electric heaters again. Have a look at https://www2.electricityinfo.co.nz/

And just in time as well, as I have almost run out LPG. Genesis energy have gotten way behind in their LPG deliveries. So much so they even phoned me and said that if I need to use a 9Kg bottle to tie me over until they can deliver. They will reimburse me for the cost of getting the 9kg bottle filled. Haven't taken them up of their offer yet as still have enough left for cooking. I ordered on Fri 4th July, and still waiting. If I was in more of a rush for LPG, I would just switch LPG companies.

A quick eyeball of today's prices show the average spot price around 10c, peaking at 17c and dropping to 8c overnight. Add on the 10c line fees and such Electric Kiwi is about the same price, with lower risk and the free hour - though their service is spotty. Maybe not quite time to change back yet.
