Bung: How do Bunnings have no stock if Ozito NZ do? It's not as if they have other retail outlets.

It's Ozito NZ who said they hadn't had stock for six months. Thanks for the note about Takanini, must be either leftover stock or a stockkeeping error, I'll phone them to see if they've actually got it. Their records aren't always accurate, the Constellation one had four of the track saws on record but more like a dozen actually on the shelf.

PLSTA-14 is available and in stock in our NZ warehouse.

It's $55 in Australia so shouldn't be more than twice that here, which still makes it cheaper than even the cheapest Makita-clone track.

I was mislead 😀

If thats the case you have to get special orders to get one in, which means the whole 3 trips to bunnings routine for it.

I dont understand how a company can have a website with pictures of products on it and think that the acceptable solution for buying it is to tell you to go into the store and speak to them about it.

I had to do that to get some 4 way wifi switches back before they would stock them on the shelf and it leaves me hating them more and more every time.

@neb I have some of the tracks and the saw here if you want to borrow it but the grippy tape comes off the tracks and I have yet to put a real blade on the saw as I have just been cutting ply to size for things so its been good enough.

You can do the special order with one trip to pick up, rest is by email and phone. In your case email glenfieldspecialorders@bunnings.co.nz with the order, they'll send you a PDF with the amount, call them with credit card details, and they email you when it's ready for pickup. It's essentially a very clunky click&collect.

Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind but ATM it's not too urgent, and given the fact that they beat everyone else's prices by a fair margin I'll probably get one myself. In terms of the blade, scuttlebutt in the Australian Ozito forums is that provided you swap out the included not-very-good blade with the equivalent Diablo one there's little to find fault with.

Anyone purchased one recently, there don't really seem to be much of a selection without spending 1k+ for a good brand, or going with a house brand that may not be as good or durable. I noticed this one is now being sold but doesn't come with battery https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-165mm-track-saw_p0468508 . Anyone got one. It is only 18V where as premium brands are usually higher voltage, so not sure how much power it has compared to a non cordless one.

milwaukee are 18v i believe.

makita have a 36v (18v * 2), or a 40v (one battery)

festool take two batteries (or plug in model)

dewalt , stay away from, they use a different track.

ozito (grey) plug in model. toolshed have their own brand. i would avoid these two.

they dont really need any more power than a circular saw, so 18v should be plenty.

There is a kiwi guy on YT that reviews Makita tools. IIRC correctly his channel is Tools & Stuff.

He waves his hands around in camera to an annoying extent, but his tool reviews are well informed and thorough.

He compared the 18v and 40v side by side and the 40v was much fast, but the quality of cut was identical.

If I wanted the best available track saw I would go Festool - RIP wallet!

If I was only doing rough breakdown of sheets, I would get an Ozito or toolshed cheapy. But the cord will be a PITA.

The Makita is reasonable compromise and if there is no hurry, the 2 x 18v model is just fine.

Personally I plug in a shop vac, so Im "corded" anyway. So I went with the festool TS-55 (about 4 years ago). But if I were buying today, I'd look at the milwaukee.

I'm not a fan of mikita with their two battery platform, and the dealt track is dumb.

I probably would have got the ryobi if it was available when I needed it.

As I really only use it to cut sheets down, any of them are fine. But the ozito plug in one is a little bit wobbly on the up and down, and the supplied blade is pretty lousy.
