andrewNZ: I received a call today saying my mower is ready to pick up. Apparently the whole motor has been replaced, and the washport removed.

This was probably the best non refund option available, I'm not totally happy with the outcome, there was zero communication about the decision... but I suppose it's fair.

Well now return it since its changed since the mower you bought which was able to be cleaned.

I have seriously considered that option, but I'm not convinced I'd be better off if I did.
Until the bearing crapped out, I did really like using it.

Assuming the motor is new, which I'm considering checking, the only negative is the loss of the ability to wash underneath.
BUT as far as I can tell, this is normal for electric mowers.

siyuan:

I bought the GreenWorks 40V mower last year, there's now a newer model, self-propelled that use the same battery as the old model.

Pros:

  • The same battery works with multiple tools from GreenWorks.

  • The mower can take two batteries, if you get two 6Ah batteries, you'll have 12Ah in total!

  • Save a bit with the combo deal (mower + line trimmer). I did a custom deal with them over online chat (mower + line trimmer + blower/vacuum + rapid charger).

Cons:

  • The only nuisance so far is the motor controller often slows down the RPM automatically to save power just when you need the high speed, but it does sense that, just there's a slight delay (about 1 sec). Not sure if the newer model is smarter.

I've just bought one. Steel deck, self propelled, free line trimmer and free shipping. I'll let you all know how well it does, we've just moved house and the old flymo isn't going to cut it here.

I got an ice scraper from supercheapauto (this one) that I use for scraping the grass off the underside of my Ryobi 36V works a treat.

I don't worry about keeping it prestine, as it's a plastic body.  (Running over a rock punched a good hole in the side, duct tape, an aluminium strip and a bunch of rivets and it's back in business)

One thing I do find with the Ryobi is the blades seem to need to be sharpened regularly, which in term extends the battery life.

When it needs replacing, I'm eyeing up either one of the Stihl models (converted to mulch only) or the DeWalt.  (Checking the blade in the shop, the DeWalt did have a sharp blade out of the box ...)
