I'll probably just follow the instructions to use alkaline. I have many eneloop but if a device says to use alkaline I tend to follow recommendation.

I prefer rechargable but with kids toys I tend to use cheap disposable batteries so we go through batteries anyway.

I got the Yolink / Yosmart products as based on what I can find the Zigbee frequency is allowed to be used in NZ. So far they seem great. They were dispatched by Amazon within 12 hours (way faster than my usual order) and economy DPD shipping got it here in about 5 days.

Got the YoLinks as well based on reccos here. Easiest setup of any wireless device I've ever encountered, sign up, plug in the hub, scan the QR code, press OK. For each device, scan the QR code, press OK. LoRaWAN has a lot going for it...

The sensors are great, they come with (replaceable) batteries preinstalled so they're ready to go out of the box. Just a pity the temp/humidity sensors are so pricey or I'd get more of them for various room in the house.

Agree, very easy setup. I'd like a couple of smoke detectors but the current price is $100 each, I'm hoping they'll come down eventually. Temp sensors are very slow to push updates, every 3-4 hours, so not really useful for many use cases.

The app has a setting for the update (alert) interval for the water sensors, haven't played with it enough to look into it but at least in theory it should be possible to do the same for the temp/humidity if they updated the firmware.

Alert interval is how often the alarm goes off if the sensor is tripped. I've read the temp sensor update the screen quickly but only transmit the info to the hub every few hours.

The docs say it's based on parameter changes. not time: Change of more than 0.5 degree over more than a minute, 2 degrees in less than a minute, 5% change over a period of more than a minute, otherwise once an hour. So it actually tracks changes pretty well.

The sensor does, but the reviews on Amazon like this one say the phone app is only updated hourly. I guess they're trying to save batteries in the sensor.
