yes. yes. with the fujitsus you Must over spec the heat pump, otherwise it will defrost when you need it most. if you don't want that, get a mitsubishi or daikin (a lot dearer)
also the fujitsus take an eternity to get going. the mitsubishi is a lot lot faster to get up to speed.

can't say with toshiba or panasonic, the other players. i have a room toshiba because the COP is 5.8! so it probably runs at like 100W the whole night :D never turns off, but the room isn't very big.

Thanks, I will probably just take your word for it and go for that one too, since you have done all the research (and save myself the hassle of all that tedious research).

HAHAHA... Many, many, many hours of research. (I do it for everything).

So do I usually, but just this once I have zero motivation to do my own research, so I'll go with a trusted opinion :)

Do Samsung make heat pumps? ;)

That's an incredible CoP! Most heat pumps cost around the same amount, when I looked - roughly. My Nocria takes about the same amount of time to get running as my Daikin, both have the room a lot warmer 10 minutes after it's turned on, and take 2-3 minutes to get started.

I heard from an installer once that Mitsubishi do well in cold weather, something to do with heaters in the outdoor units to stop them frosting up.

Toshiba daisekai 2.5 and 3kw ones have cop in the high 5s.

Mitsubishi hypercore models have heating elements to eliminate defrost cycles.

Daikins have the ability to defrost separate bits at a time keeping the rest going.

That much I know.

Ah yeah, the smaller the heat pump the higher the peak CoP, but if you undersize the heat pump it isn't working at peak and will use more power than a larger heat pump with a lower peak CoP. Short version: buy a heat pump that's slightly oversized for your needs.

I suppose Samsung do, but I only buy any brand gear when it best intersects with my needs. For phones for the last few years that has happened most with Samsung, but there is no brand loyalty underlying that.

Yup! ;p

They even have built in wifi! But they take up heaps of space, depth wise. http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/home-appliances/airconditioner/wall-mounted-air-conditioners/AR30FSSSBWKNSA

With gains in operating efficiency the energy star rating system was changed so more efficiency is now needed to earn a star.

Some heat pumps can use shockingly high amounts of electricity when in standby.

What kind of kW cooling is needed to cool a house from 32 to 24 degrees in summer? The online calculators are for Australia and the US and assume an outdoor temperature of 36 to 46 degrees which never happens here. I guess units can draw the outdoors air inside when it's cooler than indoors?

Do Samsung make heat pumps? ;)

I read an installer saying Samsung were the worst units they had dealt with

Just had the Panasonic CS/CU-E28PKR installed. This thing is a dream! Sooo quiet and so warm!
The outdoor unit is also extremely quiet. Well worth looking into for anyone interested.
