Hey all,

I posted previously in here about solar with Harrisons, I have had a couple of quotes from them, just panels - 16, 5kw inverter.  However I recently read about Micromall on Geekzone and emailed them, very responsive (like emails replies in minutes!) and have pricing which is VERY good.  16 panels plus battery for less than Harrisons without a battery.

Battery isn't huge, just 5kw https://www.micromall.co.nz/solar-batteries/lifepo4-batteries/48v-51-2v-100ah-110ah-lithium-battery-lifepo4-battery-deep-cycle-solar-battery

Anyone actually used them for buying solar stuff or installation?  Keen to proceed but want to check if anyone had problems, or no problems, either way :-)

Not used them but did ask a few questions and they seemed very helpful. In the end because my system required 27 panels on the house I found it was way cheaper to buy a pallet (36) of panels direct from a wholesaler, and use the left over 9 panels on a separate garage. From the micromall website 12 panels look to be around $233+GST each. I got mine (TW 54HB 440W) for $143 +GST each.

So for my 27 panels I'm effectively paying $191, with the other 9 for free.

You're at about half a pallet, do you have a mate that wants to go 50:50 ?

Interesting.  But then then have to deal with multiple companies for warranties - and it's an assumption Micromall would install someone else's panels.

I honestly don't mind paying them as I have more than enough DIY to do (see the thread Warm Dry Houses).  I am about to strip 3 rooms (up from 2) to replace hardboard with gib + building paper + insulation + vapour barrier, and gib over soft board ceilings.  Sometimes it's just easier to pay :-)

But that price per panel for pallet is pretty sharp!  Did you have to open an account with the wholesaler?

Micromall will not do the installation, they will just refer you to an independent installer. That's the bit I struggled with (finding a suitable installer), but found one via a referral, from a neighbour who is a sparky. My installer is happy to do a full on supply and install, or just an install. But he only does South Island work.

I did not need to open an account with the wholesaler. I have since found another wholesaler who has a slightly sharper price per pallet and will also sell at around the price I mentioned for individual panels. But I'm kinda cool with the first wholesaler as they're a small firm that have been at the vanguard of off grid kits for a decade and just getting into wholesale now.

Good luck with the renovations !

Funny world - my sparky won't install (he re-wired the house already) but Micromall gave me a price to install :-). Might be location? I am in Auckland

I’m looking to get the powerwall 3 wth solar 8-9 kw panels installed at home happy to go half on a pallet of 36   with any one who wants to  I’m in Warkworth

Then I just need to find a Tesla certified installer who will carry out the work anyone know of a company that would be willing to help

thanks

Well October is as good as finished.

700kwh generated 94% self generated ( due to first few days mostly)

Should have been 1050kwh or so but no ability to export still.

I'm surprised at how easy I am covering my use for early spring, been 'off grid' pretty much all month.

should that be 94% self consumed?

94% is pretty epic, I've only managed 49% which I'm still really happy with.

yeah guess so! same same I think.

Sometimes the PW will go back on grid fo no apparent reason, I am running it off grid mostly because it has a habit of exporting power even when set to not.

Do you have a battery? That must make a huge difference.

One thing I like about PW3 is it can run your whole house no messing with priority rings etc

Our October total generation is looking like 1,100kWh, with 66% self consumption, which is very similar to last October's stat's. HWC diverter and charging 2 EVs (one with an Evnex on solar diversion) makes for most of our consumption.

Considering that our grid export and import are both around 350kWh (based on October) and the bulk of our import is off peak the economic viability of investing in a battery is questionable as our export rate of 15c/kWh and off peak supply rate is 18.5c/kWh so minimal advantage in storage.

Nice generation, we are significantly lower than that (5kw system) but massively under powered with regards to the solar as we manage an average self consumption of 98% (without a battery).

94% for a larger system is impressive!

I just cracked 1200kWh for October, with 76% self consumption. Total power use for October will be about, 1975kWh, which puts me at about 47% self-sufficiency.

I do have a pool pump running 8-12h a day and the pool heat pump running 6-12h per day which is upping my usage a bit, about 20-30kWh per day.

I have a hot water timer being installed in the next few weeks which should shift that to my night rate power.
