There is a weber clone at countdown for 89 on special. I've had a look at it. It's a clone in a one touch gold. It looks really good for the price a lot better than all the other $100-200 price range coal kettle bbqs I've seen.

But I've never seen any of the Q series in Warehouse stores; I was in the Paraparaumu store on Friday, and saw they had two or three models, but all were charcoal ones.

Does anyone know for sure if any stores stock the Q series?

Anyone use a wireless thermometer that talks via bluetooth to your phone? Friend used one in the weekend for roasting some pork on his charcoal BBQ, worked well.

Bit of googling and can only find the Igrill mini at Mitre 10

Got my WeberQ with a smoker box a last weekend, loving it now I can get the smoking box working (except when I left the bedroom ranch-slider on to the deck open, room still smells like hickory smoke), pretty close to charcoal flavour on the meat, much easier than a straight charcoal only BBQ.

I was wondering whether anyone had experience with the MasterChef brand of barbecue sold by Briscoes?

We have been planning on buying a Weber 3200 for a Christmas present for ourselves, but my wife quite liked the look of this model when we were in the store today. I'm sure the red played a part in this, as did the $220 cheaper price!

My concern is that it's just another standard barbecue that looks the part, but may not perform that much better than a $400 model from The Warehouse, and I'm assuming won't perform as well as the Weber Q3200.

Any thoughts of the relative merits of this MasterChef model versus the Weber range or indeed any other barbecue at or below $1000?

It looks like the warehouse one has thermometer while countdown one doesn't. Otherwise they are pretty same by the looks, the enclosed ash container is handy.

It's a pity that countdown doesn't have a display model. Do you know is it hinged? Does it have "half charcoal basket"? Thanks.

I ended up answering my own question. Doing some research, it seems many purchasers of MasterChef bbqs have not thought much of their product. In particular, there are many who specifically recommend Weber units as being greatly superior to MasterChef ones. I also got the impression that, while fancy looking on the outside, underneath they were pretty similarly built to my 10 year old cheap-as unit.

So in the end I bit the bullet and put down a deposit on a Q3200; don't need it until Xmas but didn't want to miss out on the classier looking black version. Weber are clearly a clever company: charge big amounts for their products, don't discount, and then charge similarly big amounts for their accessories.

Yes top hood is hinged. It also has a hinged internal quater raised grill rack
I Can't remember regarding whether you can access charcoal with a grill hinge without removing entire grill.

Countdown Newtown Wellington has a display model I can have a look for you if I remember. The muppet that put it together put it together wrong though, and also broke part of it! :D

Hi guys, newbie here and I've been super keen on replacing our old BBQ, so thanks for the great advice already!!

I'd like to get a Weber Q2200, does anyone know if they are ever any discounts on them (e.g. boxing day)?? Otherwise, in current circumstances we may have to consider the smaller (cheaper) Baby Q1200.

In watching this area and talking to retailers the answer appears to be no, they don't offer discounts off Weber bbqs. Rather, they do deals when they throw in extras - at the moment it's a Weber cover. This worked out well for us as we'd have needed to have bought one, but other times it may be a pizza stone or something else that may not be useful.

At least the the two smaller Q series you can buy initially without the stand, and then purchase that (of either kind) later; we ended up going with the 3200, as it was only $150 more by the time we purchased the stand and the Q2200.

Just wanted to share.

Yesterday I found that BBQ's & MORE have weber baby Q on special for 359.10
I printed the page and showed up at mitre 10 Ponsonby this afternoon, they happely beat that price by 15%. it took about 180 sec from walking into store and walking out with new Weber baby Q.

So long wanted Weber Baby Q found new home for only $305.24 :)
